On July 22, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) announced the percentiles of 7 popular university entrance exam combinations including: A00 (math, physics, chemistry), A01 (math, physics, English), B00 (math, chemistry, biology), C00 (literature, history, geography), D01 (math, literature, English), C01 (math, physics, literature), D07 (math, chemistry, English).

Candidates do not need to convert their scores themselves.

Accordingly, a candidate who scores 28.75 points in group A00 is determined to be equivalent to a candidate who scores 28.25 points in group A01 and 27.5 points in group D01. Any industry that recruits using these 3 groups must ensure that the chances of admission for all groups of candidates are equal.

According to the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Training, if higher education institutions use their own exam scores such as assessment of capacity and thinking, schools must base on the percentile of the exam organization unit, from which they determine the appropriate combination for conversion. However, this is only a criterion for schools to refer to in developing their own conversion formula. Other factors may be the main subjects for admission, the characteristics of the industry, the school and the learning results of previous students.

Professor Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Management (Ministry of Education and Training), said that the concept of equivalent conversion of admission scores is a technical adjustment step using examination theory, aiming to ensure fairness between admission combinations as well as between different admission methods. According to Mr. Ha, for example, subject A is more difficult, with an average score of 5, compared to the average score of subject B of 7. Thus, a student who scores 6 points in subject A (higher than the average of that subject) must be evaluated higher than a student who scores 6 points in subject B (lower than the average of that subject). However, if only adding up the raw scores, this difference will not be shown, this discrepancy will not be shown. Therefore, it is necessary to use examination theory in an objective and scientific way to determine how many points of this combination are equivalent to how many points of that combination at the admission benchmark. Candidates do not have to convert their scores themselves, they just need to register their admission wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's General Admission Support System. The adjustment will be carried out by the Ministry of Education and Training and universities according to specific instructions.

Need to choose the right combination

"With this conversion, candidates with average scores in some subjects can still optimize their chances of admission by choosing the right combination. The conversion of scores also has great significance in the management and assessment of education quality. This is the only national-level exam that all students participate in, allowing comparison of teaching and learning quality between localities and between subjects," added Professor Nguyen Ngoc Ha.

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates will have to register their admission wishes on the ministry's general admission system. The virtual filtering software only records the highest wish for which the candidate is eligible to be admitted.

Professor Nguyen Tien Thao, Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training), emphasized that the order of wishes is very important. Students need to arrange their wishes in the correct order from high to low to avoid missing the opportunity to enter their favorite major. According to admissions experts, candidates should divide their wishes into three groups. The first group is the wishes including the most favorite majors and schools, the second group is the medium wishes, including majors and schools that are suitable for their actual academic ability, with a high chance of admission. The third group is the majors and schools with a lower standard score than the candidate's score to ensure passing the university entrance exam if they fail the above wishes.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Principal of CMC University, said that the first thing candidates need to do is determine what they want and what career is suitable for them instead of choosing a school based on the crowd or what their parents want or what their friends are applying for. Candidates can research and choose majors that the State is interested in and investing in, such as STEM, semiconductors, etc., to increase their career opportunities in the future.

Health floor score reduced

On July 22, the Ministry of Education and Training also announced the input quality assurance threshold (floor score) for health majors with university-level practice certificates in 2025.

Accordingly, the medical and dental majors have the highest floor score of 20.5. The second highest floor score is traditional medicine and pharmacy, from 19 points and above. The remaining majors have floor scores from 17 points and above. Thus, compared to 2024, this year's floor scores of majors in the health sector have decreased. Specifically, in 2024, the threshold for ensuring input quality for the medical and dental majors is 22.5 points, the pharmaceutical and traditional medicine majors are 21 points; the majors of nursing, preventive medicine, midwifery, dental prosthetics, medical testing techniques, medical imaging techniques, and rehabilitation techniques are 19 points.

For the group of university-level teacher training majors in 2025, the threshold to ensure input quality is 19 points. For physical education, music education and fine arts education majors, it is 18 points for the combination of 3 cultural subjects, other combination of admissions are implemented according to the provisions of current admission regulations.

The minimum score for the college-level preschool education program is 16.5 points for the combination of 3 cultural subjects. Other combinations of admission are implemented according to the provisions of the current admission regulations.
