Bao Nhi registered her first choice at Yen Hoa High School, the school with the highest competition rate in Hanoi for 3 consecutive years.

“A few months before the exam, I was under a lot of pressure because I chose a school with high admission scores and strong competitors. Many nights, I stayed up studying until 3 or 4 a.m. before going to bed. After a few hours of sleep, I woke up at 6:30 to go to school. I was tired but still had pressure from the exam so I tried my best,” Bao Nhi confided.

Determined, this year's exam is the first year of taking the exam according to the new program, there are not many sample questions yet, so she has placed her wish at a high school, Nhi placed her second wish at Khuong Dinh High School, her third wish at Tay Mo High School, schools with mid-range entrance scores and dozens of kilometers away from home.

“I chose a choice that is so far from the standard score to ensure safety and avoid the situation of “falling to nothing”. A week before the exam, my teachers and parents advised me to go to bed early to stay alert and I listened. I hope I can do well on the exam to be admitted to my first choice at my dream school, where I can walk to school every day,” Nhi said.

Meanwhile, Nguyen Truong Hoang Anh, a student at Le Quy Don Secondary School, shared that he had prepared knowledge for all three subjects early.

In addition to studying in class, Hoang Anh has studied all three subjects: Math, Literature, and Foreign Language since the beginning of grade 9. Before the exam day, he stayed up until 1 a.m. to review the knowledge he had learned. However, the male student said that he kept a relaxed mindset before the exam. He only had 2 wishes, the first wish was Yen Hoa High School and the second wish was Pham Hong Thai High School.

Standing at the gate of the exam site, Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Cau Giay District, said that her child was taking the exam but she was so worried that she could not eat or sleep. This morning, she woke up early to burn incense and cook sticky rice with beans for her child to eat.

"If my child fails to get into a public school, my family will send him to a private school. However, the monthly tuition at private schools is high, so we still encourage him to try," said Ms. Huong.

Don't stay up too late, avoid oversleeping

Tomorrow morning (June 7), candidates will begin taking the Literature exam, with the exam time starting at 8am. Candidates are required to be present at the exam site early to complete procedures such as: depositing personal belongings and personal belongings; listening to their names being called into the exam room, etc.

In the afternoon, candidates will take the foreign language test, with 60 minutes to complete.

Candidates are advised by teachers to go to bed early, set a timer to wake up on time in the morning, and eat safe food.

In previous exam seasons, there were cases where candidates almost failed to take the exam because they arrived late. The reason was that the night before the exam they stayed up too late to study, and the next morning they slept in… forgetting to ring the alarm.

There was a case where a parent was taking care of a sick relative in the hospital and asked the older sister to take the younger sibling to the exam, but both siblings almost fell asleep. When they woke up, just before the exam time, they didn't have time to change clothes and rushed to the exam site just a few minutes before the exam papers were distributed.

The exam regulations stipulate that candidates who arrive more than 15 minutes late after the test start time signal will not be allowed to enter the exam area for that exam session. Even if they arrive at the exam site gate less than 15 minutes before the test start time, but have not yet entered the exam room after the scheduled time, they will not be allowed to enter the exam room.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, all testing sites have arranged and provided places for parents to rest while waiting for their children, avoiding hanging around at the testing site gates. Parents are encouraged to spend time accompanying and supporting their children during the testing days.

Mr. Nguyen Huy Dien, Deputy Head of the Cau Giay High School Examination Site, said that the examination site has 22 examination rooms with 528 candidates. To prevent cases of candidates with unusual health conditions, the examination site has arranged a backup examination room and a fully equipped medical room. Surrounding schools have been notified to open their gates for parents to rest while waiting to pick up their children.
