Candidates with extra points still fail because university mistakenly combines them

Many candidates taking the entrance exam to the University of Social Sciences and Humanities with the D66 combination were surprised because even though they had enough points to pass, they still failed their desired wishes.

On August 22, after the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi announced the admission scores, Phan Huy (former student of Lomonosov Secondary and High School, Hanoi) was happy to know that with a score of 26.75 in group D66, the male student could be admitted to the Journalism major.

However, when looking up the results on the Northern admission system, Huy was "shocked" when all three of his wishes to enter the University of Social Sciences and Humanities including Journalism, Oriental Studies, and Psychology were "failed".

“The system recorded that I had passed the entrance exam to Hanoi University of Culture. This made me confused because according to the announcement, I had to have more than 1 point to enter the University of Social Sciences and Humanities. After that, I went to groups to see if anyone else had encountered the same situation as me and saw that many people had similar problems,” Huy shared.

When learning, the male student learned that the school defined the D66 combination as including the subjects Literature, English and Civic Education instead of the subjects Literature, English, Economic and Legal Education as in the announced project.

“It turns out that in June, the school changed the subject of Economic and Legal Education to Civic Education. However, I did not pay attention to that notice and continued to study as usual,” the male student shared.

Similarly, Nguyen Khoi (Thanh Hoa) said he took the D66 exam to enter the Journalism major at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and scored 25 points. Adding the regional score, the male student passed the entrance exam to this major (which originally had a standard score of 25.2).

“However, when I checked the system, I was admitted to the Culture and Communication major at Hanoi University of Culture. I was surprised and didn’t understand why,” Khoi said.

The male student said that not only he, but about 150 other candidates were also in the same situation. All candidates hoped that the school would soon come up with a solution so that they could adjust their wishes and enroll on time.

“I hope the school will consider candidates studying the new program, the subject of Economic and Legal Education, the same as those taking the old program - the subject of Civic Education, so that we do not miss out on our desired aspirations,” Khoi said.

Regarding this issue, speaking with VietNamNet , Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, said that this morning, the school reviewed and coordinated with related units on virtual registration/filtering to handle and ensure the rights of candidates.

“The school has notified and is assisting the candidates in handling the situation. The school’s responsibility is to ensure the students’ rights,” said Prof. Dr. Hoang Anh Tuan.

On the fanpage, the school also posted a notice, instructing candidates to register with the combination D66 and X78 to send information before 5:00 p.m. on August 26 for support.
