From overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, rescuing and saving victims, to participating in the construction of key national projects, and then rebuilding houses with the people after natural disasters, wherever they are, the soldiers of Division 316 affirm the noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers. These actions have further fostered the people's trust and love, creating a solid foundation for building a "people's hearts and minds" position in the strategic area of ​​the Northwest.

Command from the Heart: Search and Rescue in the Heart of Typhoon Yagi

In September 2024, storm No. 3 (Yagi) swept through the northern mountainous provinces, causing heavy losses in human lives and property. Thousands of houses collapsed, fields were buried, roads were cut off, and many villages were submerged in water and mud. Faced with that situation, immediately after receiving orders from the Military Region Commander, Division 316 quickly mobilized nearly 1,500 officers and soldiers to participate in search, rescue, and disaster relief work in 4 provinces: Lao Cai, Yen Bai , Phu Tho and Tuyen Quang (old).

Among the areas that suffered heavy damage, Lang Nu was one of the hottest spots. The flash flood swept away an entire village that was once peaceful. When the officers and soldiers of the Division arrived, all that remained was a scene of devastation and the extreme pain of those who remained. Hundreds of officers and soldiers of the 316th Division used only sticks and spears to poke into the thick mud to find victims. The torn rubber gloves, after several rounds of turning over obstacles to search, sometimes cut off limbs, the hasty meals, the fitful sleep under the cliff that was still at risk of landslides, the smell of dead animals, even the smell of decomposing bodies..., all those difficulties and dangers could not stop the determination of the soldiers because under the layer of mud buried there were the bodies of missing people that they considered as their own relatives.

The relentless efforts of the Division's officers and soldiers helped those who were missing and lying in the deep mud to return to their families. On the day of saying goodbye to the people and returning to their units, the Division's officers and soldiers carried with them the sentiments of the local people in the Lang Nu flag. Lang Nu has revived today, but the stories of the military-civilian relationship and the solidarity of the people in this land will be told forever, vivid evidence of the image and noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers. Having successfully completed its mission, the 316th Division was honored to receive the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal from the President .

Join hands for national key projects

Not only is Division 316 a core force in disaster prevention and control, it also continues to affirm its role in socio-economic development tasks, especially in disadvantaged areas.

In 2025, when Vietnam Electricity Group implemented the national key project of the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line, more than 100 officers and soldiers of Division 316 were mobilized to difficult construction sites, rugged mountainous terrain, many roads that vehicles could not access. With their strong shoulders and arms, officers and soldiers of the Division "overcame the sun and rain" to support road opening, clearing the route corridor, digging foundations, transporting materials, and putting each bundle of iron and each roll of cable into position. With the spirit of not fearing hardship, officers and soldiers of the Division worked side by side with engineers and workers of Vietnam Electricity Group, determined to complete the project on schedule.

Assessing the results of the Division's mass mobilization activities in recent years, Colonel Lam Dung Tien, Political Commissar of Division 316, emphasized: “Mass mobilization is one of the important tasks of the unit. But above all, for each soldier of Division 316, it is an order from the heart. We always determine that helping people overcome natural disasters, participating in civil works, or rebuilding houses for people in flooded areas, all come from the spirit of "serving the people". It is from these actions that the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new period is recognized, loved and respected more by the people."
