In Decision No. 130 dated January 17, 2025, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee decided to transform Tan Quy village into Tan Quy neighborhood, Lam Mon village into Lam Mon neighborhood, and Binh Thanh village into Binh Thanh neighborhood. According to this decision, Phu Thinh town has 6 neighborhoods (Tan Thinh, Thanh Duc, Tam Cam, Tan Quy, Lam Mon, and Binh Thanh).

According to Resolution 1241 dated October 24, 2024, of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on the rearrangement of district and commune-level administrative units in Quang Nam province for the period 2023-2025, Phu Ninh will establish the new Phu Thinh town by merging the entire natural area and population of Tam Vinh commune into Phu Thinh town. From January 1, 2025, Phu Ninh will have 9 communes and 1 town.

Previously, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Le Van Dung, also issued a decision recognizing the expanded Phu Thinh town (Phu Thinh town and Tam Vinh commune) as meeting the criteria for a type V urban area under Phu Ninh district.
