Ho Chi Minh City music market gradually returns to its peak

On the first day of the GENfest 2024 Festival - Cities In The City: Street in the Street (November 24) taking place at the new Center The Global City (HCMC), the artists confirmed to perform in the program excited the young audience, with Hwasa, Loco, Chi Pu, Karik, Andree Right Hand, HIEUTHUHAI, HURRYKNG - group GERDNANG, MANBO, Phuc Du, Duong Domic. On the second day of the festival (November 25), the line-up of GENfest 2024 will include PSY, Suboi, tLinh, MONO, Wren Evans, WXRDIE, Quang Hung MasterD, WEAN.

Right from the announcement of the performing artists, GENfest 2024 made fans excited with the appearance of Karik - one of the famous names in the Vietnamese rap scene. The group GERDNANG is preparing to bring a top-notch stage at GENfest, with performances full of personality from each member and the explosive combination of the talented trio: HIEUTHUHAI, HURRYKNG and MANBO.

HIEUTHUHAI shared: "Last year, Hieu had the opportunity to perform at GENfest and that day was amazing, from the stage, the audience to the sound. This year I'm back, promising many surprises, interesting things are waiting."

HURRYKNG also could not hide his excitement and expressed his anticipation for an extremely hot stage with the GERDNANG brothers. Wren Evans, MONO, Quang Hung MasterD, Duong Domic, WEAN... are all prominent young faces in the Vietnamese music industry today.

With their unique musical styles, these singers have quickly captured the hearts of the audience. At GENfest 2024, they will all deliver an explosive performance, taking the audience on a colorful and emotional musical journey.

The performance market in Ho Chi Minh City has never been as vibrant as it is now. Live shows of singers Trung Quan Idol, Cam Ly, Park Bom (former member of Korean group 2NE1); live shows of Duc Tri, Quoc Thien, Uyen Linh, Tung Duong, Phuong My Chi, concert Anh trai say hi, live concert Anh trai trav ngan cong gai... made the concert market in Ho Chi Minh City "explode".

More importantly, the concerts were packed with audiences as a sign of revival for the HCMC performance market. The concert "Co doi lan" (October 5) by musician Duc Tri attracted more than 4,000 audiences and over 4 hours of performance. This was the biggest personal music event in the musician's career with many interesting highlights. A week later, the concert by singer-songwriter Vu took place, attracting more than 8,000 audiences.

Optimistic signals

Recently, audiences in Ho Chi Minh City were confused when faced with hard-to-refuse choices when all three programs "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai", "Anh trai say hi" and the music night Hoi - Thuan - Hoi 2024 took place on the same day.

What is special is that despite being held in Ho Chi Minh City on the same day and at the same time, all 3 events were "sold out". If "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" attracted 20,000 spectators, "Anh trai say hi" from 15,000 - 20,000 people, Hoi - Thuan - Hoi 2024 was not far behind with 9,000 spectators. In just 1 night, Ho Chi Minh City attracted about 50,000 spectators to the events with revenue of hundreds of billions of VND. This shows that the development space of the performing arts industry in the city is still very large.

Even personal live shows have impressive audiences. Typically, Phuong My Chi's live show "The Universe of Flying Storks" attracted nearly 10,000 viewers.

With what is happening, the forecast of an audience of up to tens of thousands of people at 8Wonder with the 21st century music monuments - Imagine Dragons, Dreamy Cities, GENfest 2024, Ho Do International Music Festival 2024... is completely feasible.

The performances not only attract a large audience but also leave an impression of quality. Each event has a strong personal mark, the audience is satisfied both visually and aurally. Musician Phuong Uyen commented, "Vietnamese music is developing like a "storm". The programs and young people are working together to bring Vietnamese music closer to neighboring countries such as Korea, Japan and the European and American markets. The programs are all very good."

This vibrancy is creating exciting development levers for the city and above all, in terms of cultural industry development, this boom is an optimistic signal.

People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, said that in the strategy and plan for implementing the cultural industry of Ho Chi Minh City until 2035, the performing arts industry is identified as one of the key points. Ho Chi Minh City used to be the most bustling performance venue in the country. The wave of artists moving south from all over the country is a clear proof of the peak period of the performance market in Ho Chi Minh City. However, after a long time, Ho Chi Minh City is no longer the first choice of many "show organizers" due to many objective factors. However, at present, the peak color seems to be returning.
