The "bottleneck" stems from concerns about costs.

Although green transformation is an essential requirement, its implementation in many Vietnamese businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), still faces numerous obstacles. Associate Professor Dr. Dang Vu Bich Hanh, senior lecturer at the Faculty of Environment and Resources, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City), commented: "The biggest bottleneck currently is not that businesses are unaware of the green development trend or ESG, but mainly due to a lack of information, a lack of suitable models, and concerns about initial investment costs."

Concerns about the high cost of green transformation are causing many businesses to hesitate. However, from an expert's perspective, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Vu Bich Hanh believes that if the right solutions are chosen and a suitable roadmap is in place, green transformation is not an expense, but a foundation for stable and profitable long-term business development.

To truly realize the Net-Zero goal, science and technology and digital transformation play a crucial role. At the recent 2026 Green and Circular Technology and Equipment Market (Techmart) in Ho Chi Minh City, more than 100 technologies and equipment were introduced, focusing on areas such as green energy, environmental treatment, green materials, and especially ESG management tools.

Ms. Nguyen Hoang Bao Tran, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology, emphasized: "The 2026 Green and Circular Technology Techmart is organized not only to introduce technology, but more importantly to create conditions for businesses to access solutions that can be applied in practice, suitable to their production conditions and investment costs."

Here, practical business problems have found solutions through digital transformation models such as IoT-integrated solar power systems, greenhouse gas inventory software, and blockchain platforms for tracing carbon footprints. Mr. Lam Dinh Thang, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology, shared: "Through these networking activities, we create practical values, such as economic value, or values that promote technological research for institutes, universities, and businesses."

To date, Vietnam's journey towards achieving Net-Zero by 2050 is being driven by a spirit of genuine innovation. When businesses are no longer isolated but supported by a synchronized technology ecosystem, green transformation will truly become a new driving force for national competitiveness on the international stage.

Building a synchronized technology market.

The success of the greening process is inseparable from inter-regional cooperation. One of the key milestones is the signing of cooperation agreements between the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology and localities including Ca Mau , Dak Lak, and Dong Nai to promote data sharing and connect innovation resources.

Ms. Nguyen Hoang Bao Tran stated: "As a major science, technology, and innovation center of the country, Ho Chi Minh City aims to make the City's Technology Exchange Platform a hub for connecting and sharing technology data, equipment, experts, research results, and technology needs among localities." This connection helps businesses access suitable solutions more quickly while also forming a transparent science and technology market with measurable effectiveness.

The effectiveness of these efforts was demonstrated by the technology transfer contracts signed right at the event. Sharing her thoughts on the sidelines, Ms. Dinh Ngoc Van Phuong, Business Director of Vietnam Solar Energy Technology Joint Stock Company, assessed that innovation and technology application are no longer "encouraged options," but have become decisive factors in a company's competitiveness. Investing in technology optimizes production processes, saves energy, reduces operating costs, improves product quality, and increases adaptability to market fluctuations.

"With ESG standards, technology plays a crucial role in supporting data governance, traceability, emission control, and transparency in production. This is also an increasingly common requirement from international partners, global supply chains, and major export markets," said Ms. Dinh Ngoc Van Phuong.
