The closer to the end of the year, the more people tend to shop. Accordingly, the wooden furniture market is starting to bustle, preparing goods for the Tet market. This is also the busy "business" season for carpenters to produce quality products to meet customer needs.
Developing a “niche” market
At this time, many families start shopping for items and decorating their homes to welcome Tet. Accordingly, home appliance and furniture brands have quickly launched many attractive promotions and incentives to stimulate consumption.
This is also a "golden" time for wood furniture manufacturing and trading establishments to research and launch new products to meet the increasingly diverse needs of consumers.
According to many wood furniture traders, currently the most popular wooden art products are god of wealth cabinets, Maitreya Buddha statues, mascots, feng shui wooden paintings, etc.
Entering the store of more than 200 square meters, amidst the bustling atmosphere of production to meet the orders, Ms. Nguyen Nhu Y - owner of Nguyen Long fine art wood store (Thanh Phuoc ward, Binh Minh town) said that every year, from the 8th lunar month, the store is busy with the year-end production and business season:
“This is the time when many people build houses to celebrate Tet, so wooden furniture products, especially fine art wood, are in high demand. We are promoting the consumption of small-sized wooden household products and fine art wood for decoration and gifts during Tet, thanks to which our revenue has increased by about 50% compared to normal days.”
The outbreak of COVID-19 caused challenges for Ms. Nhu Y's wooden furniture business in terms of product output. After that, Ms. Nhu Y gradually started to switch to online business.
“But wooden furniture is inherently too large in size, so online customers are reluctant to buy it. In addition, since the pandemic, people have gradually tightened their spending, so we decided to attack the “niche” market of wooden furniture by producing smaller items such as bowls, chopsticks, tissue boxes, toothpick jars… even wooden stationery, combined with an attractive after-sales service to promote and introduce products, gradually creating trust with customers” - Ms. Nhu Y shared.
At the same time, Ms. Nhu Y also produces and trades wooden furniture with diverse designs and models such as altar cabinets, wardrobes, tables and chairs, box beds, etc.
Thanks to the use of good, durable wood materials, the highly sophisticated products have created prestige with customers. Particularly with wooden handicraft products, depending on the requirements of customers, the creativity of the craftsman as well as the quality of wood, the products created have different values.
“Depending on market demand, each establishment must choose its own style and approach to customers. In particular, the product must be highly differentiated to enhance competitiveness,” said Ms. Nhu Y.
Busy with the job of "breathing life" into wood
For a long time, carpentry has become a traditional profession that contributes to bringing stable income to many people. Wooden products created by the skillful hands of carpenters not only have material value to serve the diverse needs of consumers but also contain cultural and spiritual values.
Mr. Le Van Tuyen (Thanh Phuoc Ward, Binh Minh Town) has been a woodcarver for more than 18 years and confided: “Carpenters work all year round, but the busiest and most bustling months are still the last months of the year. This profession requires the craftsman to be patient and dedicated, to stick with the profession long enough, to travel here and there to learn, then he can feel and put the “soul” into each work, something that no machine can do.”
To create quality products, craftsmen must go through many steps such as measuring and taking dimensions, sawing wood, cutting, planing, making blanks, drawing, carving, assembling, painting...
“Using modern machinery in the early stages saves time, but the finishing stage must be done by the craftsman's own hands. With skill, each product will have its own unique features and cannot be mistaken,” Tuyen added.
Mr. Le Van Tuyen is completing the work "Bodhidharma Taming the Tiger", estimated to be worth more than 30 million VND. |
In the last days of the year, the carpentry profession receives more and more "housewarming" orders. Amidst the noisy sounds of saws cutting wood and the sounds of planing and chiseling, Mr. Duong Van Nam, 50 years old (Cai Von ward, Binh Minh town), was meticulously making a new wardrobe for a customer and excitedly said: "I have been in this profession for more than 20 years.
This job is noisy and dusty, but it provides a stable income. As the year comes to an end, there are more orders, many people build houses so they need to buy new things, I can make all kinds of household appliances, I receive many orders, sometimes I have to go back to work right after eating without having time to rest, close to Tet I still stay up late, although tired but happy".
The end of the year is considered the “golden season” for many industries. With the bustling atmosphere of woodworking production and trading establishments, carpenters are even more excited about their jobs, hoping for a prosperous “business” season to have a more prosperous Tet.
