The My Thuan - Can Tho expressway has officially opened to two-way traffic.

Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board, said that in recent days, hundreds of pieces of equipment and machinery, along with a team of engineers and workers, have been working day and night, eating and sleeping right on the construction site to ensure progress.

The project has also put into use two interchanges, the National Highway 80 interchange and the Cha Va interchange, increasing connectivity for vehicles traveling from Vinh Long to Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho City. Thus, vehicles from the Mekong Delta traveling to Ho Chi Minh City can now enter the My Thuan - Can Tho expressway at the Cha Va interchange (Vinh Long province) to head towards My Thuan 2 bridge. The maximum permitted speed for vehicles on the expressway is 90 km/h, and the minimum speed is 60 km/h.

The My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway is a component project of the Eastern North-South Expressway, with a total investment of over 4,800 billion VND from the state budget. Phase 1 will have a complete 6-lane road with a design speed of 100 km/hour.

The project spans 23 km, passing through the territories of two provinces, Vinh Long and Dong Thap . The starting point is at Km107+363 (Tan Hoa Ward, Vinh Long City, Vinh Long Province), connecting with the My Thuan 2 Bridge project; the end point is at Km130+337 (Binh Minh Town, Vinh Long Province), connecting with National Highway 1 at the Cha Va intersection.

The My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway and My Thuan 2 Bridge are the final two pieces completing the Eastern North-South Expressway, the 120 km section from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho City. The commissioning of these two projects is significant in reducing traffic congestion and shortening the travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta capital by 50 km, equivalent to about 2 hours, instead of 3.5 hours as before.
