The Hau Giang – Ca Mau expressway, spanning over 73 km, officially opened at 11:00 AM on January 19th. This is a crucial link in the journey, ensuring seamless connectivity with the Can Tho – Hau Giang section and significantly shortening travel time to the southernmost provinces of Vietnam.

Route and traffic diversion instructions

According to the traffic management plan, in the direction from Can Tho to Ca Mau, vehicles begin entering the expressway at the IC5 interchange in Vi Thuy commune, Can Tho city. Vehicles then continue to the IC12 interchange in Ho Thi Ky commune, Ca Mau, and then follow the directional signs to exit the main route.

Conversely, vehicles from Ca Mau or An Giang travel along the Southern Coastal Corridor (Trans-Asian Highway) to reach the IC12 interchange. From there, drivers turn onto the expressway following the specific on-site instructions.

Investment scale and technical operating regulations

The newly opened section of the expressway cost over 17.15 trillion VND to construct. This is a crucial component of the nearly 111 km long Can Tho – Ca Mau expressway project, with a total investment of over 27.5 trillion VND. The project, managed by the My Thuan Project Management Board, was designed with four lanes.

Regarding speed limits, vehicles on the main route are permitted to travel at a maximum speed of 80 km/h and a minimum speed of 60 km/h. At the interchange branches, the maximum speed limit is 40 km/h. This road is exclusively for cars; motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrians are strictly prohibited.

Economic impact and regional infrastructure connectivity

Previously, on December 22, 2025, the 37.65 km Can Tho – Hau Giang section was also put into operation. The official opening of the entire Can Tho – Ca Mau route has strategic significance in linking the Mekong Delta region.

Once the entire route is operational, the estimated travel time by car from Ho Chi Minh City to Ca Mau will be only about 3.5 – 4 hours. This is nearly half the time it would take to travel via National Highway 1 as before, creating a significant impetus for socio-economic development and goods circulation in the Mekong Delta provinces.
