(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Nguyen Duy Quoc Thai, a student from Le Hoan High School in Xuan Lap commune, Thanh Hoa province, has excelled and become the top scorer in the D07 group in the 2025 high school graduation exam with a total score of 28 (Mathematics 9, Chemistry 9, English 10). With this achievement, the male student is in the top 4 in the North and ranks 10th nationwide.

Showing a talent and love for English from a young age, Quoc Thai was particularly passionate about English-language animated films and loved foreign bands.

Nguyen Duy Quoc Thai shared: “When I saw my name on the list of top scorers, I was very happy. Right from the end of the exam, I was quite confident because I did relatively well. I thank my teachers and family for always supporting and encouraging me to study and train hard.”

Commenting on the exam in the D07 subject group, Quoc Thai said: “In my opinion, the Math and Chemistry exams were highly selective, with diverse question types and an emphasis on practical application, requiring candidates to have good reading comprehension skills. The English exam was difficult, approaching international exams like IELTS. The exam focused on assessing reading comprehension, linguistic thinking, and the ability to apply English in real-life situations, rather than just testing grammar and vocabulary knowledge. Without understanding the context of the reading passage, it was impossible to do well on the exam.”

Not only did he achieve high scores in the high school graduation exam, this "village schoolboy" also boasts impressive achievements and a wealth of knowledge in various fields. In 10th grade, Quoc Thai won third prize in the provincial-level English competition for gifted students. By 11th grade, he had an 8.0 IELTS score and won second prize in the provincial-level English competition for gifted students.

To achieve such admirable academic results, the top-scoring student stated that she primarily studied in class, only completing the assignments given by her teachers and avoiding additional practice tests or online materials. Throughout her studies, she focused on mastering foundational knowledge and completing all assignments, rather than cramming intensely during the final exam period.

Sharing his future plans, Quoc Thai said he applied to the Logistics and International Business program, a high-quality training program at the Foreign Trade University.

Born into a family where both parents were teachers, Quoc Thai always received support from his family and felt absolutely no pressure when choosing his learning methods.

“My parents have always been there to support and encourage me to pursue my passions. Besides being passionate about Math, Chemistry, and English, I also enjoy fashion , listening to music, reading, going to the gym, and watching movies… I love music and am a fan of G-Dragon (a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter, and businessman),” Quoc Thai shared.

Proud of his son's achievements, Mr. Nguyen Duy Trinh, Quoc Thai's father, expressed his joy: "Quoc Thai doesn't attend many extra classes; he mainly studies at school under the guidance of his teachers. At home, he is also self-disciplined and proactive in arranging his study schedule. My family doesn't impose any study methods or personal preferences on him. He is allowed to make his own decisions and take responsibility for his choices."

According to Mr. Trinh, his friends advised him to watch cartoons to learn English, so from a young age, the family often showed Quoc Thai age-appropriate films. As he grew older, seeing his passion for foreign languages, the family encouraged and supported him in conquering the English language. "His results in the recent graduation exam are thanks to his serious self-study and the dedicated support from his teachers at school," Mr. Trinh shared.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung, Principal of Le Hoan High School, commented that Quoc Thai is a very individualistic student who knows how to set clear goals in his studies. He excels in all subjects, with English being his strongest subject.
