Ms. Duong Thi Ha was originally a kindergarten teacher. After getting married, she taught while her husband worked as a laborer, and their finances were not very comfortable. In 2019, when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, her family's life was also affected, causing them many difficulties. One day, while browsing Facebook, Ms. Ha came across an article about frog farming and, out of curiosity, clicked to view it. Realizing that this model could help improve their family's finances, she and her husband researched the profession further.

Initially, Ms. Ha's family experimented with raising 3,000 frogs. Since no one in the surrounding area had yet developed this model, Ms. Ha and her husband had to learn as they went along. The new model presented many challenges, from finding a suitable location to build the breeding tanks and selecting the right froglets to mastering care techniques and disease prevention.

Due to lack of experience, the frog population suffered significant losses. The first breeding cycle, despite considerable effort, yielded no profit after deducting all expenses. Ms. Ha thought: "I can't give up so easily!" With that in mind, she continued reading books and newspapers and learned that many families in Bao Yen district had succeeded with this model. She and her husband traveled to Bao Yen to seek advice from experienced breeders. Applying the knowledge they gained to their own model, Ms. Ha's family succeeded. After only two years (in 2021), Ms. Ha's family was able to produce their own froglings. The model quickly recouped their investment and became profitable.

Building on their success, in 2022, Ms. Ha discussed with her husband the possibility of investing in 13 more breeding tanks, and she decided to focus full-time on developing the frog farm. By 2023, Ms. Ha's family had expanded the scale to 33 breeding tanks. To ensure a reliable food supply, they purchased an additional feed mixer. The total investment for the model was nearly 300 million VND.

To date, Ms. Ha's family frog farm sells nearly 8,000 kg of froglets and mature frogs annually. With an average price of 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg, this model generates revenue of approximately 600 million VND. After deducting expenses, her family earns about 200 million VND per year. This is a significant amount for a family in a rural area of Lao Cai province.

Mr. Van Gia Lam, Chairman of the People's Committee of Liem Phu commune, assessed: "Ms. Ha's family's economic development model is a role model for the commune to promote and encourage other households to follow. The commune is also guiding and supporting Ms. Ha's family to develop more frog-based products to achieve OCOP certification."

In addition to economic development, Ms. Ha and her family have always set a good example in implementing the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws and regulations, and have encouraged and promoted family members and relatives to participate in local movements...
