In a statement ahead of his visit to the US from June 7-8, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak affirmed that Washington is London's "closest ally" and that the two sides are "priority partners on every issue, from ensuring the security of their citizens to economic development."
The occupant of 10 Downing Street also stressed the importance of building a "close and frank relationship" with the host country's president, following some signs of tension in bilateral relations.
The British and American leaders are expected to discuss improving economic relations and maintaining military support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
However, according to a spokesperson for Prime Minister Sunak, the two sides will not hold any negotiations on a formal free trade agreement.
Downing Street announced on June 3rd that the upcoming meeting in Washington DC will be the fourth between the two leaders in the past few months, following events in San Diego, Belfast, and the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan. This demonstrates the "strong bond" between the two allies.
This marks Rishi Sunak's first official visit to the United States as British Prime Minister.
