Prime Minister Le Minh Hung emphasized that Can Tho has a very important position and role in the development of the region and the whole country. The Prime Minister acknowledged and commended the efforts, results, and positive changes achieved by the Party Committee, government, and people of Can Tho City in the past period.
At the same time, the Prime Minister stated that, in order to achieve the goals and tasks for 2026 and for the entire term, Can Tho City still faces many limitations, difficulties, challenges, and untapped potential.
Typically, in the first quarter of 2026, Can Tho's economic growth rate reached 7.02%, ranking second in the Mekong Delta region, but still among the lowest in the country and failing to meet the target of 9.52%. Furthermore, the local economic restructuring has not met expectations; public investment disbursement remains a bottleneck; the quality of human resources is still limited, with a low percentage of workers holding degrees and certificates…
Notably, there are currently 130 long-standing stalled projects in Can Tho City. Of these, 43 projects have been updated to the database of the Steering Committee for resolving stalled projects, and 87 projects fall under the jurisdiction of the local authorities.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung suggested that in the coming period, Can Tho City needs to do a good job of fulfilling its tasks to serve the goal of double-digit growth. It should effectively implement the strategic resolutions of the Politburo to serve the overall development goals of the country in general and the city in particular.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung emphasized that Can Tho must further strengthen the role of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee in concretizing and implementing tasks; building detailed scenarios and plans. At the same time, it is necessary to assign targets to relevant entities with expected outcomes, linked to responsibilities, to provide a basis for evaluation, inspection, and supervision, ensuring the progress and quality of task implementation.
In particular, the Prime Minister requested Can Tho City to focus on attracting investment and accelerating the implementation of key national and international-level projects and works that have regional linkages and connect the city's growth poles.

Regarding stalled and long-standing projects, the Prime Minister requested that localities urgently review and address them in order to maximize the release of resources for development.
Can Tho also needs to develop manufacturing and processing industries, applying high technology to create more added value; and large-scale projects, such as offshore wind power.
Specifically for the agricultural sector, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung requested that the leaders of Can Tho City pay special attention to promoting high-tech agriculture, deep processing, and the development of trade, services, and tourism. Along with that, the locality must resolutely review and reduce administrative procedures, improve the investment and business environment; develop the private economy; promote entrepreneurship, innovation, and digital transformation.

Directing the effective implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung requested Can Tho City to focus on developing high-quality human resources and science and technology at Can Tho University and other major higher education institutions. At the same time, the city should boldly pilot and commission scientific and technological research in sectors and fields with potential and strengths, and establish appropriate mechanisms for exploiting research results.
