On the morning of May 31st, nearly 125,000 Hanoi students were present at 224 examination centers across the city to take the mathematics exam - the final subject of the entrance exam for 10th grade in public high schools for the 2026-2027 school year.
This is the largest exam ever held in Hanoi, with the number of candidates increasing by approximately 20,000 compared to last year.

At many examination centers, candidates arrived early to calm their nerves and check the necessary items before the exam began.
Candidates were reminded to abide by the regulations and not bring mobile phones or other prohibited items into the examination room.
Arriving at the exam site at Thang Long Secondary School (Giang Vo ward) around 6:30 AM, Nguyen Minh Anh said she felt quite confident before the final exam. According to her, this year's Literature and Foreign Language exams were manageable and closely followed the curriculum, so she performed quite well.
"I predicted that my results for the first two subjects would be fairly good, as expected. That made me feel more relaxed and gave me more motivation to do well on the math exam this morning," Minh Anh shared.
According to observations, the atmosphere at the examination sites was orderly and serious. Many parents brought their children early, encouraging them to remain calm before entering the crucial exam.
After completing the math exam, candidates will conclude the 2026-2027 public high school entrance exam in Hanoi, one of the most competitive exams as the number of candidates continues to increase sharply.
According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, on the afternoon of May 30th, 401 candidates dropped out of the foreign language exam; 5 candidates needed assistance with the exam due to health issues requiring medical support; and 1 candidate violated exam regulations by bringing a mobile phone into the examination room.
Thus, on the first day of the 10th grade entrance exam, two candidates were suspended for the same violation; no invigilators violated the regulations.
