According to the VNA special correspondent, on October 10, on the occasion of attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related summits in Vientiane, Laos, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The two Prime Ministers were pleased to note that the Vietnam-Canada Comprehensive Partnership is developing strongly in many areas; affirming their determination to continue to elevate and deepen cooperation between the two countries on the basis of mutual respect, mutual benefit, in line with the aspirations of the people of both countries, contributing to maintaining peace, stability and development in the region and the world .
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that Vietnam always values its comprehensive partnership with Canada; and welcomed Canada's increased engagement with the region, both within the bilateral framework and through ASEAN mechanisms. The Prime Minister proposed that both sides work together to more effectively exploit opportunities for economic, trade, and investment cooperation; strengthen defense cooperation, including Canada's support for Vietnam's participation in United Nations peacekeeping operations; and enhance cooperation in labor training, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, gender equality, poverty reduction, protection of women's and children's rights, climate change response, and food security.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expressed strong agreement with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's proposals; suggesting that the two sides strengthen high-level and other contacts, and jointly utilize the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (CPTPP) effectively.
The two Prime Ministers also agreed to effectively implement agreements on defense cooperation, including the Memorandum of Understanding on defense cooperation for the period 2024-2026; and to continue effective cooperation in other important areas such as labor, social affairs, education, and people-to-people exchanges. The two leaders agreed to continue close coordination within the framework of regional and global multilateral forums, especially ASEAN, the United Nations, the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, and the Francophone Community.
