On the afternoon of June 6, at the Government Headquarters, receiving Chairman and CEO of FedEx Express Corporation (USA) Richard W. Smith who is visiting and working in Vietnam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the Corporation expand its operations in Vietnam, participate in investment and activities at Long Thanh International Airport.

Welcoming Mr. Richard W. Smith and the leaders of FedEx Express Group to visit and work in Vietnam, the Prime Minister congratulated the Group on its successes globally as well as in Vietnam; thanked the attention and appreciated the practical and effective contributions of FedEx Express Group as well as Mr. Richard Smith personally in the prevention and control of COVID-19 and for Vietnam's economic development, as well as the Vietnam - US relationship.
The Prime Minister said that the United States is a strategically important partner of Vietnam, especially in the economic and trade fields. The United States is currently Vietnam's largest export market; Vietnam is the 7th largest trading partner of the United States. The trade turnover between the two countries has reached over 100 billion USD for two consecutive years. The United States has always been one of the most important investment partners in Vietnam, and is among the 10 largest countries in which Vietnamese enterprises have invested.
Notably, in September 2023, Vietnam and the United States upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, creating new space and momentum for cooperation in many fields. Since the two countries upgraded their relationship, Vietnam has welcomed many large corporations and enterprises such as Google, Apple, Nvidia, Boeing, Amazon, etc. to explore and expand investment.
Regarding Vietnam, the Prime Minister said that Vietnam's consistent policy is to maintain political, economic and social stability; build an independent and self-reliant economy, associated with proactive and active international integration, deeply, substantially and effectively; the consistent goal is to develop rapidly and sustainably based on the resources of Vietnamese people and Vietnamese culture, promote the application of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation and green transformation.
According to the Prime Minister, with the spirit of harmonious benefits and shared risks, Vietnam continues to perfect its institutional and policy systems to improve the investment and business environment in an increasingly favorable, equal, safe, stable and transparent direction; develop infrastructure and logistics to reduce compliance costs and input costs for businesses; with "open mechanisms, smooth infrastructure, smart governance"; commit to creating all favorable conditions for businesses, including US businesses such as FedEx Express Group, to invest and do business long-term, stably and with increasing efficiency in Vietnam.
Vietnam is an open economy, has FTAs with 60 economies worldwide and continues to expand to many new markets, the volume of goods circulating in and out will be very large, in the context of increasing cross-border e-commerce activities, the Prime Minister believes that FedEx Express's transportation and express delivery services in Vietnam as well as globally will continue to develop.
Chairman and CEO of FedEx Express Richard W. Smith sincerely thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for taking the time to receive the delegation. FedEx Express is the world's largest express transportation group, operating in more than 220 countries and territories, with 2023 revenue reaching 90.2 billion USD.

After more than 30 years of FedEx Express Group entering Vietnam, Vietnam has become the Group's main market in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa regions, with 36 flights of the Group per week to and from Vietnam and is the largest express delivery company in Vietnam.
Believing in Vietnam's economic growth potential in the coming time; appreciating the investment environment and potential in Vietnam, especially the Government and Prime Minister's listening to the business community, Mr. Richard W. Smith said that FedEx Express Group wishes to expand its investment and operations in Vietnam. In the immediate future, it wishes to maintain its logistics operations at Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
Welcoming FedEx Express Group to expand cooperation and investment in Vietnam, contributing to promoting and enhancing the Vietnam-US relationship in the coming time, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the Group study increasing the number of flights, the scale of cargo transportation activities and accompany Vietnam in the process of developing the airport system and logistics network; expanding relations, supporting and sharing experiences with Vietnamese partners in operating and managing transportation and logistics services and participating in providing express delivery services in the global goods supply chain.
Informing that the Vietnamese Government is currently focusing on implementing the Long Thanh International Airport project (Dong Nai province), building it into a regional and global transit hub, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked FedEx Express Group to pay attention to supporting Vietnam in the process of building Long Thanh airport; as well as expanding the Group's operations and investment at this airport.
Regarding the recommendations of FedEx Express Group related to the Group's operations at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Transport to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to handle and ensure the Group's smooth operations.
