Provincial Library - a destination for developing a reading culture.

Having undergone 70 years of formation and development, the Provincial Library is now one of the most beautifully housed libraries in the Northern region. With a diverse system of functional reading rooms and many reader-centered activities, the Provincial Library is contributing to fostering a passion for reading and developing reading skills among the people, especially teenagers and children. From there, it is gradually forming a reading culture, aiming towards building a learning society.

Important cultural institutions

Spanning a total area of ​​7,000 ^m² , the Provincial Library has a three-story main building with a floor area of ​​4,600 m², comprising 13 types of storage with a capacity of over 550,000 publications, 6 types of reading rooms with a capacity to serve over 300 readers, a conference room with a capacity of nearly 300 seats, and administrative and service rooms that provide optimal working conditions for library staff to serve readers and the public. In addition, there are essential auxiliary facilities outside the building, ensuring a pleasant landscape and creating a complex of cultural architectural works in the Le Quy Don flower garden area, contributing to urban beautification while serving as a public space for the people. This is also where the Library organizes outdoor activities to promote reading culture in the community.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh, Director of the Provincial Library, informed: Regarding facilities, the Provincial Library has a modern automatic fire alarm system; a deodorizing, dehumidifying, and dust removal system; surveillance cameras; and air conditioning in all offices serving readers. In 2017, thanks to the investment in an electronic and digital library, we have all the modern electronic equipment such as computers, projectors, cameras, and access control gates for books... This project has supported the digitization of books and local history documents into a database, serving readers' research through the library's website. Since 2019, the Provincial Library has been equipped with a mobile library vehicle with 5,000 books, 6 laptops, 100 seats, and accompanying equipment, like a miniature library, to serve the reading needs of the people in the province. Throughout its 70 years of operation, the Provincial Library has proudly served as an important cultural institution and a vital resource for readers. Despite the development of audiovisual media and the explosion of social media, the Provincial Library continues to play a crucial role, affirming that books and newspapers are invaluable tools for disseminating profound knowledge, serving learning, research, and entertainment—qualities that cannot be replaced by other forms of reading.

"Sowing the seeds" of a reading culture.

Each year, the Provincial Library welcomes tens of thousands of readers who come to study, research, and search for information through the books and newspapers available and stored there. Nearly 200 students from Dong My Kindergarten ( Thai Binh City), visiting the Provincial Library for the first time with their teacher and classmates, were extremely excited. Upon entering the library, they offered incense to commemorate the scholar Le Quy Don and listened to stories about the studious spirit and thirst for knowledge of this renowned figure from Thai Binh. Afterwards, with the dedicated guidance of the Provincial Library staff, they experienced the functional reading rooms. They were also instructed on maintaining cleanliness in the common areas, minimizing noise so that everyone could concentrate on reading, and developing the habit of receiving information from books and newspapers. In addition to functional reading rooms such as the children's room, the mother and baby room, and the multimedia reading room, during this period, readers visiting the library can also admire many elaborately designed artistic book arrangements.

Ms. Ha Thi Bich Dao, Principal of Dong My Kindergarten, shared: "Building and nurturing good habits helps children accumulate valuable skills for the future. Therefore, the school pays great attention to forming reading habits for the children. When we visited the Provincial Library, we saw that not only the students but also the teachers were very enthusiastic, helping the children find their favorite children's books, organizing reading activities for them, and games answering questions related to books. The very friendly atmosphere at the Provincial Library contributed to creating excitement and a passion for discovery in young children. The school will strive to organize more trips to the Provincial Library for students."

In parallel with serving readers at the library, throughout the school year, the multimedia library vehicle has visited schools across the province, organizing meaningful reading sessions with lively experiential activities, and donating hundreds of books to students. Ms. Duong Thi Nguyet, Principal of Thuy Binh Primary and Secondary School (Thai Thuy), shared: "The books donated on the multimedia library vehicle's journey by the Provincial Library are gifts of great spiritual value, encouraging our students to study harder and become ambassadors of reading culture, spreading the passion for reading to everyone."

With its spacious and modern facilities, the Provincial Library aims to promote digital transformation, library interconnection, and the development of an electronic library, utilizing modern technology to support readers' reading and information retrieval. Simultaneously, it actively organizes diverse activities to develop a reading culture, striving to become an attractive destination not only for readers within the province but also for tourists visiting Thai Binh.
