This is a biennial event, attracting a large number of scholars, judges and international law experts from many Asian countries and around the world .
Through 9 times of organization, the Conference has made a strong impression and succeeded in building a forum for professional exchange in the field of international law, and at the same time, it is a bridge connecting the international law research community in Asia.
Speaking at the Opening Session, Ambassador Dr. Pham Lan Dung, President of AsianSIL, said that the world is currently undergoing profound transformations, in which strategic competition, technological breakthroughs, climate change and global health challenges have shaken the foundations of the international order.
Asia is one of the most dynamic regions, witnessing unprecedented economic growth, cultural vitality and technological advancement. However, according to Ms. Pham Lan Dung, this region also faces tensions, cross-border environmental crises and new governance issues in cyberspace, outer space and the ocean.
In that context, Ambassador Dr. Pham Lan Dung said that international law has called for constructive engagement in many areas, from trade and investment to the environment, human rights, security and emerging technologies, while also evoking diverse Asian perspectives, rooted in history, culture and practice, contributing meaningfully to the global development of international law.
Through this Conference, Ms. Pham Lan Dung expressed her hope that this will be an ideal platform for countries to join in discussions and exchanges both in depth and breadth on many diverse topics.
This not only reflects Asia’s dynamic engagement with the legal field, but also affirms the region’s commitment to shaping legal solutions to both long-standing and emerging challenges.
In addition, the Conference brings together multiple generations, demonstrating that the future of international law lies in the hands of young scholars who bring creativity, fresh perspectives and determination to the field.
"Supporting the young generation is not only an obligation, but also the best investment in the sustainable development of the AsianSIL mission," Ambassador Dr. Pham Lan Dung added.
The 10th AsiaSIL Plenary Conference takes place on October 9-10, 2025, and includes two plenary sessions and many discussion sessions on the whole range of international legal issues such as the law of the sea, dispute settlement, international investment law, environmental law, human rights, artificial intelligence and data governance. |
