During his visit and work in China, this morning (May 28), Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy held talks with Mr. Ton Mai Quan, Director General of the General Administration of Customs of China.
At the meeting, leaders of the two agencies reached agreement on a number of solutions to strengthen trade relations and open markets for agricultural, forestry and fishery products of the two countries.
The solutions focus on strengthening coordination in handling problems arising in agricultural import and export activities, first of all, coordinating to remove obstacles in the import and export of durian from Vietnam to China and coordinating solutions to ensure smooth lychee import and export activities in 2025.
In addition, the two sides will accelerate the negotiation process and sign a protocol on the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products from Vietnam to China; establish a mechanism for annual ministerial meetings on a rotating basis and establish a joint working group on food safety and quality inspection, quarantine, etc. to promote cooperation and promptly handle arising issues.
Also at the meeting, the leaders of the two sides agreed on the direction of cooperation in the coming time, accordingly, the two sides agreed to implement cooperation measures such as establishing a "green agricultural channel" mechanism, prioritizing fast customs clearance at border gates for fresh fruits during the peak harvest season; increasing working hours at border gates (including weekends and outside of office hours) to meet high customs clearance needs; completing procedures to sign a protocol on Vietnam's exploited and fresh aquatic products exported to China; considering signing new protocols to replace expired protocols to suit the actual situation; China will soon send a working delegation to conduct field inspections of Vietnam's grapefruit and lemon to develop a draft export protocol...
According to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in 2024, the import-export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery products between Vietnam and China reached 17.8 billion USD, an increase of 14.6% over the same period in 2023. Of which, exports reached 13.5 billion USD, an increase of 14.3% and imports reached 4.3 billion USD, an increase of 21%. In the first 4 months of 2025 alone, the export turnover reached 5.07 billion USD, an increase of 3.7% over the same period in 2024.
To date, the two sides have signed 28 agreements/protocols related to the import and export of agricultural products. Many products have been officially exported to China, including 15 agricultural products (such as watermelon, mangosteen, durian, rambutan, longan, jackfruit...) along with products such as bird's nest, crocodile, farmed monkeys, fish meal, milk, seafood and many products for livestock...
Also within the framework of the visit, on the same day, the working delegation led by Minister Do Duc Duy also visited Tan Phat Dia Agricultural Products Distribution Center, visited and worked with the China Supply and Marketing Group to create a premise to lead businesses and localities to seek cooperation and investment opportunities in the agricultural sector with Chinese partners.
