In addition to providing excellent medical care for children, Hai Phong Children's Hospital has also become a hub for many meaningful charitable activities, contributing to supporting underprivileged child patients during their treatment.

Warmth of sharing

In the last days of May, the atmosphere in the hospital wards and departments became warmer as many child patients received gifts on the occasion of International Children's Day on June 1st. These small gifts, free meals, and timely visits and encouragement helped the children alleviate fatigue and find more joy during their hospital stay.

On the morning of May 29th, leaders of the City People's Committee, along with representatives from relevant departments and units, visited and presented gifts to 10 seriously ill children from disadvantaged backgrounds receiving treatment at the hospital. Each gift was worth 2 million VND. Prior to this, since the beginning of May 2026, the hospital's Social Work Department had received and coordinated the implementation of numerous support programs organized by agencies, units, clubs, and charitable groups in the city for child patients in celebration of Children's Day (June 1st).

Support activities for pediatric patients at Hai Phong Children's Hospital are maintained regularly, not just during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year). Programs such as distributing free porridge, donating milk and daily necessities, assisting with hospital fees, and organizing recreational activities for children have become familiar sights in many treatment wards. For families with seriously ill children, timely support not only helps alleviate the economic burden but also provides motivation for the children to focus on their treatment.

One of the cases that the hospital connected with for support was Tran Thai Son (9 years old), from Vong Hai residential area, Hung Dao ward. He suffered from multiple serious illnesses such as autoimmune hemolytic anemia, complications after measles, and multiple organ failure, requiring prolonged treatment at the National Children's Hospital with costs reaching hundreds of millions of VND. Through the efforts of the Social Work Department, over 38 million VND was donated by benefactors, helping the family to have better resources for the child's treatment.

Most recently, there is the case of eight-year-old Le Duc Duy, residing in Ha Tay residential area, Hoa Binh ward, currently receiving treatment at the Department of Trauma, Burns, and Plastic Surgery. His family is in extremely difficult circumstances; his father is serving a prison sentence, his mother left many years ago, and the two brothers live with their grandmother. After an accident resulting in a fractured right arm requiring hospitalization, the family is unable to afford the medical expenses. The Social Work Department is currently continuing to connect with resources to support the child and his family in overcoming their difficulties.

According to Master Pham Minh Dan, Deputy Head of the Social Work Department at Hai Phong Children's Hospital, with the motto "No child patient should be left behind due to difficult circumstances," the unit always strives to mobilize various social resources to share the burden with patients. "Each gift, meal, or support, though not of great value, demonstrates care and sharing, helping families alleviate difficulties during treatment," Mr. Dan said.

Connecting with support resources

As the central point for receiving and coordinating support activities for patients, the Social Work Department plays a bridging role between the hospital and agencies, businesses, philanthropists, and charitable groups. Annually, the unit proactively surveys and verifies the circumstances of disadvantaged child patients to develop appropriate support plans, ensuring that assistance reaches the right recipients and is transparent and accountable.

In 2025, the hospital coordinated 121 gift-giving programs to support child patients, with a total value of approximately 1.1 billion VND. It is projected that in the first six months of 2026, the total value of programs handled by the Social Work Department will exceed 454 million VND. Besides connecting resources to support hospital fees, the unit also regularly organizes activities to provide advice, guidance on medical examination and treatment procedures, health insurance, and answer questions for the families of child patients.

According to Master Pham Minh Dan, the biggest advantage currently is that the hospital always receives attention and support from many agencies, organizations, businesses, and philanthropists inside and outside the city. However, the need for support remains very great, especially for children with serious illnesses requiring long-term treatment. Therefore, the hospital hopes to continue receiving the cooperation of organizations, businesses, and philanthropists to have more resources to care for these children.

The humanitarian activities at Hai Phong Children's Hospital not only help families alleviate difficulties but also spread the spirit of sharing in the community. The joint efforts of organizations, individuals, and philanthropists are giving more faith and strength to many child patients to overcome illness and return to their families and daily lives as soon as possible.
