These days, in many villages and hamlets, the atmosphere of house construction is bustling. From early morning, people have proactively helped each other transport materials and provide labor to families building and completing new houses. Despite the difficult terrain and challenging transportation conditions, localities have made efforts to accelerate the progress of the program.
The family of Mr. Trieu Van Huyen, from Toan Thang village, Bach Thong commune, is one of the households receiving support to replace their temporary house this year. For many years, the entire family lived in a severely dilapidated wooden house that frequently leaked during the rainy season, posing a safety hazard. With financial support from the government and assistance from villagers, Mr. Huyen's family has been able to build a new, more spacious house.
Mr. Trieu Van Huyen shared: "My family has difficult economic circumstances, so we never dared to dream of building a new house before. Now, with the support from the government and the help of the community in terms of labor, my family is very happy and feels more at ease knowing we no longer have to worry when the rainy season comes."
According to Mr. Ha Ngoc Viet, Chairman of the People's Committee of Bach Thong commune: Implementing the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in 2026, Bach Thong commune has started construction on 25 houses, including 14 households of families with meritorious service to the revolution and 11 households classified as poor. To ensure effective implementation and progress, the commune has assigned various departments, organizations, and residents in the villages to provide labor support to help households dismantle old houses, level the ground, and transport materials. Through regular inspections, the implementation is generally proceeding smoothly and according to plan. Residents are taking advantage of the dry weather to accelerate progress and complete the houses for use as soon as possible.
Similar to Bach Thong commune, in Phong Quang commune, the work of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses is also being implemented comprehensively. Local authorities have carefully reviewed households facing housing difficulties, prioritizing poor households, families receiving preferential treatment, and elderly people living alone to develop appropriate support plans.
Standing in front of her sturdy, over 50m2 house nearing completion, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hanh from Na Dan village, Phong Quang commune, happily shared: "As a family with a history of service to the revolution, thanks to the Party and State's policies supporting our family with funding, we have contributed additional money to build a new, solid house. We are actively accelerating the construction process to complete it soon and have a stable place to live."

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Thinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phong Quang commune, in 2026, the commune had 32 households on the list to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, and to date, most households have started construction. For particularly disadvantaged households, in addition to financial support, the locality also mobilizes forces to provide labor and transport materials. The goal is to ensure that no household is unable to build a house due to lack of manpower or difficult conditions. Besides the financial support from the state, the locality is also actively mobilizing social resources, encouraging organizations, individuals, businesses, and the people to join hands in helping disadvantaged households.
According to local statistics, many temporary and dilapidated houses have been repaired or rebuilt in recent times, contributing to changing the face of rural areas in the highlands. The sturdy houses that have been built have helped people settle down and at the same time instilled more confidence in the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State.
It is evident that, with the decisive involvement of Party committees and authorities, along with the joint efforts of the community, the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in mountainous areas is yielding positive results. These new homes have provided people with safe living spaces, contributing to stable lives, enabling them to work and produce with peace of mind, develop the economy, and increase their income.
