(Dan Tri Newspaper) - For the first time, elementary school students at a public school are being introduced to a new and unprecedented subject: golf.
During the first week back at school after the Lunar New Year holiday, students at To Vinh Dien Primary School in Hanoi had a special lesson. They wore their sports uniforms, shoes, and specialized hats and went to the schoolyard to learn how to play golf.
Two professional golf instructors organized the students into groups, introducing them to the basic concepts of the golf course, holes, rules of the game, how to hold the club, and how to execute a swing. Afterward, the students took turns practicing one-on-one under the direct guidance of the instructors.

This novel subject piqued the students' curiosity and excitement, prompting them to listen attentively and observe carefully. To ensure students memorized the basic concepts before practicing, the instructors conducted on-the-spot review sessions through games.
The lesson was filled with emotions: the competitive answering of theoretical riddles, the curious and awkward expressions of students touching a golf club for the first time, the joyful cheers when a student hit the ball on target, and the disappointment after a missed shot.

The method used in the lesson is SNAG golf. In this method, students use a set of soft, lightweight, safe, and colorful clubs and balls to reduce the risk of injury and attract attention.
Ms. Ha Ngoc Lan, Principal of To Vinh Dien Primary School, said that in the first week, more than 400 students from 13 out of 22 classes participated in the SNAG Golf course implemented by the R&A-VGA youth golf development project.
Each day, the school organizes 4-5 golf lessons, held after regular school hours in the afternoons. Each class has 35-40 students, guided by 1-2 SNAG Golf instructors with the support of school teachers.

"The project to popularize golf for 100% of the students at To Vinh Dien Primary School does not use public funds. The children learn completely free of charge, with one lesson per week until the end of the school year."
Not only were the children excited, but the teachers and parents were equally enthusiastic. Parents helped the teachers prepare beautiful and professional outfits and accessories for their children.
"Watching the children enthusiastically and diligently learning under the dedicated guidance of the coaches and teachers makes us very happy and proud," the principal of To Vinh Dien Primary School shared with a reporter from Dan Tri newspaper .
Bui Ba Nhat Minh and Bui Nam Khanh, two students from class 2A at To Vinh Dien Primary School, expressed their delight after the novel lesson. "I've only seen golf on TV before; this is the first time I've held a golf club in real life. I'm very happy to be learning this sport at school," Minh said.
Khánh, on the other hand, expressed her excitement at being able to play sports without competition or confrontation: "I don't really like competitive sports. So when I play golf, I find it great because it helps me stay healthy and relax at the same time. I'm really looking forward to next week's lesson."

Present at her child's golf lesson at school, Ms. Pham Tra Giang, a parent of a student in class 2A, commented: "The program is a groundbreaking innovation and reflects the school's vision in developing physical fitness and life skills for students."
Witnessing the children's enthusiastic and passionate learning, I am very happy and hope that the school will maintain this activity for a long time so that the children can have truly quality physical activity sessions, be nurtured in character, culture, social communication, and support more effective learning."
Ms. Ha Ngoc Lan added that the school's teachers are currently participating in a certified SNAG golf coach training course, preparing them for the transfer of program content and golf lesson plans.
The school plans that, after the project ends, students will continue to receive free golf lessons according to the same schedule as this school year, contributing to improving the overall quality of education for students.
