In 2024, Ca Mau's economy continued to grow well, with the province's gross regional domestic product (GRDP) increasing by 7.09% over the same period. GRDP per capita reached 72.6 million VND. In the first six months of 2025, it increased by 6.46% (same period increased by 6.96%); of which, the fishery, agriculture and forestry sector increased by 2.45% (same period increased by 3.24%); the industry and construction sector increased by 9.80% (same period increased by 9.74%); the service sector increased by 7.83% (same period increased by 7.66%).
In particular, the total seafood output of Ca Mau in the past 6 months is estimated at 338,290 tons, equal to 50.5% of the plan, up 3.7% over the same period; of which, shrimp output is estimated at 131,427 tons, equal to 49.6% of the plan, up 3.9% over the same period; seafood export turnover is estimated at 551.8 million USD, equal to 46.4% of the plan, up 4.2% over the same period.
According to the People's Committee of Ca Mau province, the whole province currently has 278,615 hectares of aquaculture, of which the area of intensive and super-intensive shrimp farming is 6,470 hectares, equal to 95.1% of the plan (super-intensive farming area increased by 3.5%), the area of improved extensive shrimp farming is 198,042 hectares, exceeding the plan by 4.2%, up 6.3% over the same period; the area of combined extensive shrimp farming is 74,103 hectares, 100% of which is being stocked. The price of raw shrimp of all kinds has mostly increased compared to the same period, helping farmers feel secure and excited.
Ca Mau currently has a total area of over 5,300 km2. With 3 sides bordering the sea and adjacent to Singapore, Indonesia, Cambodia, Thailand, near important international shipping routes in Southeast Asia, it is convenient for exchange, trade and cooperation in the marine economy...
This place is also one of the largest fishing grounds in Vietnam, with potential and strength in developing marine economy, aquaculture and especially developing eco-tourism with over 100,000 hectares of typical mangrove and cajuput forests.
Ca Mau has the largest shrimp and crab farming area in the country with about 290,000 hectares. Ca Mau province's shrimp export turnover reached more than 1.1 million USD, Ca Mau crab output reached more than 25,000 tons/year. Sea crab is also considered a key product of this province with a total value of nearly 10,000 billion VND/year.
Bac Lieu province has a natural land area of more than 2,660 km2 with a 56 km long coastline, 3 large estuaries (Nha Mat, Cai Cung, Ganh Hao) and a 20,742 km2 exclusive marine economic zone.
Bac Lieu province has recently been known as an aquaculture area, especially shrimp, with large scale and high technology, aiming to become the national shrimp industry center.
