According to Bloomberg , Apple plans to add a range of AI features to iOS 27, including a grammar checker, shortcuts, and wallpaper creation tools. This move aims to close the gap with competitors' software.
Apple is expected to launch iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 at the WWDC conference in June, before a wider release in September. Analyst Mark Gurman said the company is trying to catch up with Samsung and Google, which are successfully bringing AI features to mobile devices.
On May 13th, Google announced Android 17 and Gemini Intelligence. The platform adds features such as AI-powered widget creation for the home screen, a Rambler mode to remove unnecessary words during voice input, and an agent system that handles applications throughout the system.
Based on rumors, upcoming AI features in iOS 27 include a new Siri mode, support for image analysis via the camera, and more photo editing tools. Siri will also be revamped with a chatbot interface and deeper interaction capabilities across all apps.
As part of its AI upgrade, Apple is planning to integrate a grammar checker into iOS 27, similar to the Grammarly software.
According to the description, the feature is activated via a sliding menu from the bottom of the screen. The original text is displayed along with suggested edits, if any. Users can accept partial edits, full edits, or no edits, pause the review, and switch between problematic sections of text.
This feature is developed based on the Writing Tools suite, first released with Apple Intelligence in 2024, and includes text editing and summarizing capabilities.
According to Gurman, Apple also wants users to interact more with AI by testing the "Write With Siri" feature on the keyboard, as well as the "Help Me Write" option when users activate Siri while working with text.
Apple has also developed an upgrade for the Shortcuts app, supporting the creation of shortcuts based on natural language. Currently, users have to create shortcuts manually or download shortcuts from Apple's library.
"In the new application, users will be asked 'What do you want the shortcut to do?', next to a text input box to describe the request. The system will then automatically create and install the shortcut," the Bloomberg writer described.
Apple is also preparing an AI-powered wallpaper creation feature. Through the Image Playground app, users can ask the AI to create wallpapers for their home screen or lock screen. For comparison, Google and Samsung have long offered similar features.
