Extreme heat covers the whole country

Heat waves are covering the whole country during the April 30 and May 1 holidays in 2024. According to the latest forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (posted at 4:00 p.m. on April 27), from April 28 to 30, the Northwest region will continue to suffer from heat waves and intense heat waves during the day, with some places experiencing extreme heat. The highest temperature is from 35 to 38 degrees Celsius, with some places experiencing over 39 degrees Celsius; in Son La - Hoa Binh, it is 38 to 41 degrees Celsius, with some places experiencing over 41 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature in the evening is 25 to 28 degrees Celsius, with some places experiencing under 24 degrees Celsius.

In the Northeast region, from April 28 to 30, it is predicted that there will be hot and extremely hot weather during the day, with some places experiencing extremely hot weather. The highest temperature will be from 35 to 38 degrees, with some places reaching over 39 degrees. The lowest temperature will be from 26 to 29 degrees.

Also during the three days of April 28-30, the Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions are also predicted to continue experiencing hot weather, with some areas experiencing severe heat. The highest temperature could reach over 41 degrees in some places. The lowest temperature would range from 23-31 degrees.

During the scorching heat, the need for cooling devices like fans is sure to increase. Turning the fan on high is one way to help you cool down, but there are some other fan tricks that are even better at helping you beat the heat.

Tips for using fans effectively at night

In the evening, the temperature is usually lower than during the day. Therefore, you may not need to use air conditioning but just a fan. However, the question is how to use a fan in the evening to get the maximum benefit.

Experts advise not to point the fan directly at people even when it is hot.

Normally, many people think that pointing a fan directly at themselves is the most effective way to cool down. However, when you are not using air conditioning and have windows open, you can consider this fan trick.

Instead of pointing a fan at yourself, aim it at an open window, says New Zealand eco-design consultant Nelson Lebo. This is “the best, low-cost, highly effective technique for keeping your home cool,” Lebo says.

Lebo recommends placing your fan next to a window in a shady area of the house as soon as the outside temperature drops. This creates cross-ventilation, bringing cooler air from outside into the house while pushing hot indoor air out.

Using smart fans will help you save electricity.

“Everyone knows about cross ventilation, but it only works when there is a breeze, and it works best when there is a direct path for the breeze to flow through the house,” Lebo told LadBible. “What a fan does is create cross ventilation, even if there is no natural breeze in the house. The fan will also draw air around the corners of the house.”

"The goal is to pull hot air out, while also pulling cool air in when the outdoor temperature drops below the indoor temperature."

This is also a method to help you save electricity because "fans hardly use as much electricity as air conditioners," Lebo said.

Another expert also endorses this fan tip. Chris Michael, CEO of air treatment company Meaco (UK), said that this fan position sucks the stuffy air out of the room, while pulling fresh air in from the window.

Michael told Express that this not only reduces the temperature inside the house but also improves the quality of air circulating around the house.

This unique method is even easier than some other solutions, such as placing ice in front of a fan or chilling your sheets and blankets before bed.

It can also help alleviate any discomfort some people may experience from sleeping with a fan blowing all night.

According to the Sleep Advisor website, some people wake up with extremely dry noses after a night of sleeping with a fan blowing directly on them because "the constant flow of air also tends to dry out your nose."

The website says that dry noses can affect the sinuses, sometimes causing the body to produce excess mucus. This can lead to “congestion, stuffiness, and sinus headaches.”

“People who sleep with a breeze pointed directly at them may wake up with stiff and sore muscles,” the website adds. “This is because the cool air focused on the body can cause muscles to tense up and cause cramps.”

Some tips for using fans on hot days:

1. Do not leave the fan standing still while in use.

2. Do not direct the fan's airflow directly at people.

3. Set a timer to use the fan when needed.

4. Do not sit directly in front of a fan when your body is sweating a lot.

5. Maintain and clean the fan regularly.
