This is a cultural and artistic event, honoring cinematic works of high artistic value, rich in humanity, with outstanding and unique international and Vietnamese creative imprints; practically celebrating the country's major holidays in 2024 and commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024).

HANIFF discovers and honors new cinema talents; introduces outstanding works of world cinema and connects, exchanges and cooperates for mutual development, creating opportunities to expand the Vietnamese cinema market and integrate into the international cinema market.

The event contributes to promoting the beautiful and hospitable country of Vietnam, the capital Hanoi with its long-standing cultural traditions, a thousand-year history of civilization, and is developing strongly and has been voted by UNESCO as a Creative City.

According to the Organizing Committee, this year's HANIFF is expected to have the participation of about 800 delegates and guests from within and outside the country, including leaders of the Party and State; representatives of relevant departments, ministries, branches, agencies and units; outstanding film artists, young activists from Vietnam and internationally.

From more than 500 registered films, the 7th HANIFF selected 117 feature films and short films from 51 countries and territories to participate in the event's programs. Notably, 9 films were introduced in the film program celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital.

The opening and closing ceremonies - awarding ceremony were held at Ho Guom Theater (40 Hang Bai, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi). The idea of the script for these two ceremonies was inspired by traditional folk art and culture interwoven with modern architectural works that are symbols of Hanoi, creating a youthful, vibrant atmosphere, suitable for the space of an international film festival. The main image exudes a profound Asian spirit, both imbued with Vietnamese tradition and bearing the elegant, sophisticated aesthetic of Hanoi people.

Within the framework of HANIFF 2024, there will be many rich activities, such as the exhibition "Vietnam's heritage recognized by UNESCO - Experience through cinema footage"; the workshop "Spotlight on German cinema"; the workshop "Developing film production exploiting historical themes and adapted from literary works"; Film project market; Program to visit some relics and famous places in Hanoi, film screening programs in theaters and outdoors.
