The vegetable and fruit growing area in Hop Kim commune produces according to VietGAP standards, supplying clean agricultural products to the Hanoi market.
As part of the province's key agricultural product group, vegetable production areas have made a positive shift from a focus on quantity to one focused on economic value; they have basically implemented safe production processes to create products that ensure food safety and quality. To date, the entire province has 413 hectares certified VietGAP; 31.6 hectares certified organic; and the rate of applying integrated pest management (IPM) on vegetables has reached 92.5%.
Vegetable cultivation is concentrated in the communes of Tam Đảo, Đạo Trù, Tam Dương, Hội Thịnh, Hoàng An, Nật Sơn, Kim Bôi, Hợp Kim, An Nghĩa, Vân Sơn, Hoàng Cương, Chí Tiên, Liên Minh, Hiền Lương... The local specialty vegetables include chayote, green squash, pumpkin, bitter melon, and luffa.
During the period 2026-2030, Phu Tho province aims to develop vegetable production by expanding the cultivated area, diversifying varieties and seasons, and meeting the needs of both domestic and export markets. By 2030, the cultivated area for vegetables will be expanded to approximately 40-42 thousand hectares based on expanding the winter crop and restructuring crop patterns, with a production of 750-800 thousand tons per year; prioritizing the development of strong vegetable groups suitable for each ecological sub-region; and establishing 2-3 thousand hectares of high-tech vegetable production areas linked to preservation and processing.
At the same time, the province is promoting the application of technological advancements (greenhouses, automatic irrigation, hydroponics), building production-consumption linkages; focusing on key products such as chayote, tomatoes, green squash, leafy vegetables and utilizing by-products for composting and animal feed, contributing to the development of circular and sustainable agriculture.
