Vietnamese - the glue that binds the community to the homeland

On July 20, at the Vietnam Cultural Center, Paris, France, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs , the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in collaboration with the Vietnam Education Publishing House and the Vietnamese Embassy in France organized a ceremony to honor the Vietnamese language and inaugurate the Vietnamese Bookshelf to serve the Vietnamese community in France.

At the beginning of the program, delegates observed a minute of silence to commemorate General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Moved by the large participation of overseas Vietnamese including four generations, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that the Vietnamese language is not only the soul of the nation, but also a tool and method to preserve feelings and connections with relatives and homeland and country.

She is proud that the Vietnamese language continues to be maintained and increasingly enriched through classes of the Vietnamese community in France over many generations.

The Deputy Minister shared touching stories about "people's teachers" teaching Vietnamese to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generation children in difficult classroom conditions in many places around the world.

The Deputy Minister also said that the ceremony was not only to honor the Vietnamese language but also an opportunity to express gratitude to organizations and individuals, teachers, parents and students who, with their enthusiasm and love for the Vietnamese language and culture, have helped the Vietnamese language to spread more and more.

According to Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang, the event of Honoring Vietnamese Language and Opening Vietnamese Bookshelf to serve the Vietnamese community in France is an important activity to maintain and develop the movement of teaching and learning Vietnamese in the Vietnamese community in France.

The Ambassador affirmed that supporting, accompanying and encouraging the community to maintain cultural identity and preserve the Vietnamese language is one of the main focuses of the embassy. He hopes that the Vietnamese community in France, with the pride of being one of the first overseas communities founded by President Ho Chi Minh, will become increasingly united and continue to spread more strongly the movement of teaching and learning Vietnamese - the glue that binds the community to the homeland.

The Ambassador also believes that the diverse activities of the Project on Vietnamese Language Honor Day in the overseas Vietnamese community will be actively implemented by domestic and foreign authorities, making an important contribution to promoting the teaching and learning of Vietnamese abroad.

Research and compile Vietnamese books suitable for local communities

Thanking the efforts of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese in promoting the teaching and learning of Vietnamese, Mr. Pham Vinh Thai, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Education Publishing House, affirmed that Vietnam Education Publishing House will coordinate with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to continue providing Vietnamese books and accompanying overseas Vietnamese.

The two sides will cooperate in researching and compiling Vietnamese language textbooks to suit the language and characteristics of the local community, as well as coordinate with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to expand the model of Vietnamese language training classes for overseas Vietnamese in Vietnam.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang, Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang, Mr. Pham Vinh Thai and delegates inaugurated the Vietnamese Bookshelf for the community and awarded 7 Commemorative Medals of Gratitude and gifts to groups and individuals, teachers and students who have had outstanding achievements in teaching and learning Vietnamese in France.

The organization of the Vietnamese Language Honoring Ceremony and the opening of the Vietnamese language bookshelf to serve the community is an activity within the framework of the Project to Honor the Vietnamese Language in the Overseas Vietnamese Community for the period 2023-2030, issued by the Prime Minister in 2022 .

Previously, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang had a meeting with leaders and representatives of Vietnamese associations in France such as the Association of Vietnamese in France, the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts Worldwide, the Association of Women in Science, the Club for Lovers of the Sea and Islands, the Association of Vietnamese Entrepreneurs in France, the Vietnamese Innovation Network in Europe, the Global Network of Young Vietnamese Intellectuals, etc.

Representatives of the association leaders briefly informed about the Association's activities, and at the same time pointed out the advantages and difficulties, and made proposals and recommendations such as: making identity cards for Vietnamese citizens abroad, creating favorable conditions for the naturalization of Vietnamese citizens of the 3rd and 4th generations, supporting the associations in their activities, providing teachers and Vietnamese books, supporting the compilation of specialized Vietnamese books for French-speaking areas, etc.

On the same day, Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang also visited and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in France. Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang said that the Vietnamese community in France has over 300,000 people.
