General Secretary and President offers incense to commemorate heroic martyrs in Quang Tri

General Secretary and President To Lam offered incense at the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Special Historical Site.

On the afternoon of October 15th, during his working visit to Quang Tri province, General Secretary and President To Lam and the Central delegation laid wreaths and offered incense at the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Special Historical Site; the Le Duẩn Memorial Area; and offered incense and flowers to commemorate the heroic martyrs at the National Martyrs Cemetery on Highway 9 and the Truong Son National Martyrs Cemetery.

The delegation included Politburo members: General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense; and Lieutenant General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security. Also present were Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and Chief of the Central Office Nguyen Duy Ngoc; and leaders from several central committees, ministries, and agencies, as well as Quang Tri province.

In a solemn and moving atmosphere, General Secretary and President To Lam and the delegation respectfully laid flowers and incense, and observed a minute of silence to remember and express gratitude for the immense contributions of the heroes and martyrs who bravely sacrificed their lives during the 81-day and 81-night battle to defend the ancient citadel and town of Quang Tri.

During our people's resistance war against the US, Quang Tri Citadel inscribed a glorious golden milestone in the nation's history, a shining example of revolutionary heroism, through the courageous and tenacious battle to defend the citadel and Quang Tri town for 81 historic days and nights during the fiery summer of 1972. This battle significantly contributed to the victory at the negotiating table leading to the Paris Agreement in 1973, creating momentum for our army and people to launch a swift and decisive offensive, resulting in the historic great victory of Spring 1975, completely liberating the South and unifying the country.

General Secretary and President To Lam and the delegation also laid wreaths and offered incense to commemorate the heroic martyrs at the National Martyrs Cemetery on Highway 9, the eternal resting place of more than 10,800 heroic martyrs from across the country who fought, served in combat, and bravely sacrificed their lives on the Highway 9 Front, the Quang Tri battlefield, and in neighboring Laos during the resistance war against the US to save the nation and gain national independence.

With profound respect, before the spirits of the heroes and martyrs, General Secretary and President To Lam and the delegation expressed their boundless gratitude and deep appreciation for the immense contributions of the heroes and martyrs who dedicated their youth, bravely fought, and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the country.

At the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery, the resting place of 10,263 martyrs from across the country, mainly those from the 559th Regiment of the Truong Son Army, who sacrificed their lives during the resistance war against the US to save the nation, the General Secretary, the President, and the delegation observed a minute of silence to commemorate the immense contributions of the heroic martyrs from all corners of our beloved Vietnam who dedicated their youth, blood, and lives for the independence, freedom, and happiness of the people, and who now rest in peace at the Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery.

Earlier, at the memorial site in Hau Kien village, Trieu Thanh commune, Trieu Phong district, General Secretary and President To Lam and the delegation respectfully offered incense to commemorate General Secretary Le Duan, expressing their deep gratitude and appreciation for the immense contributions of General Secretary Le Duan to the cause of national liberation and reunification.

Writing in the guestbook at the Memorial Area, the General Secretary and President stated: “The entire life and career of Comrade Le Duan contributed to the cause of national liberation and the building of socialism, and the development of Vietnam. The great contributions of Comrade Le Duan have brought glory to the Vietnamese Fatherland and will forever endure in the glorious and heroic history of the nation.”

The Le Duẩn Memorial Area is a place that expresses the profound affection and gratitude of the entire Party and people in general, and of the Party Committee and people of Quang Tri in particular, towards an outstanding national leader, a staunch fighter of the international communist and workers' movement, an excellent disciple of President Ho Chi Minh, and an outstanding son of Quang Tri province.
