Mechanical engineering is the backbone of the aspiration for industrialization and modernization.

On the morning of April 19th, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Association of Mechanical Engineering held its 4th National Congress. Attending the congress were Mr. Phan Xuan Dung - President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, Honorary President of the Vietnam Association of Mechanical Engineering; Mr. Do Huu Hao - President of the Vietnam Association of Mechanical Engineering; and Ms. Nguyen Tuyet Mai, specialist from the Department of Non-Governmental Organizations, Ministry of Interior .

In his remarks at the ceremony, Mr. Phan Xuan Dung acknowledged and praised the achievements of the Vietnam Mechanical Engineering Association during the past term.

According to Mr. Dung, during this period, the Party has determined that to achieve rapid and sustainable development, it is necessary to rely on promoting advanced science and technology. Proof of this is the Politburo's Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation. Therefore, this is also a crucial development stage for the mechanical engineering industry. Many large projects have been and are being implemented, such as the construction of two nuclear power plant complexes in Ninh Thuan province and the construction of a high-speed railway. Over the next five years, the total investment for these projects will reach hundreds of billions of USD, mainly concentrated in the mechanical engineering sector.

" Given this situation and context, the Vietnam Mechanical Engineering Association needs to conduct thorough research and propose specific solutions and tasks to accelerate the country's industrialization and modernization by 2030, with a vision to 2045. In this, the mechanical engineering sector will become the backbone of the industrialization aspiration ," Mr. Phan Xuan Dung stated.

Strengthening international cooperation in the field of mechanical engineering.

During the 2018–2024 term, the Vietnam General Association of Mechanical Engineering implemented a comprehensive approach to its work and achieved many positive results. The association's organizational structure continued to be strengthened and developed. By the end of 2024, the General Association had 12,874 active members across 16 member associations, one branch, and two affiliated organizations.

Regarding international cooperation, during the past term, the General Association maintained relationships with many organizations in the region such as the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers, the Japan Mold Association, and the China General Association of Mechanical Engineers. Several member associations actively participated in international science and technology organizations. Delegations from the General Association also attended many international exhibitions in Vietnam and Cambodia, as well as major specialized conferences. These activities contributed to expanding exchanges and learning in the field of mechanical engineering.

In its professional field, the General Association actively carries out activities to advise and critique policies on the development of the mechanical engineering industry, contributing to important documents such as the Strategy for the Development of Vietnam's Mechanical Engineering Industry until 2045. The General Association also regularly participates in policy workshops chaired by ministries, agencies, and scientific and technical organizations. Notably, in December 2023, the association organized a thematic workshop on the development of Vietnam's railway system in conjunction with the mechanical engineering industry.

Scientific research and training were central to the term. Members and experts of the General Association participated in numerous national, ministerial, and local research programs. The General Association successfully organized two National Conferences on Mechanical Engineering Science and Technology in 2021 and 2023. Member associations organized many workshops, skills competitions, and intensive training courses on machining, welding, and technical inspection skills, contributing to improving the professional level of the mechanical engineering workforce.

Entering the 2025–2030 term, amidst a volatile global context and a domestic situation presenting both opportunities and challenges, the Vietnam Mechanical Engineering Association, along with the rest of the country, is implementing the Resolution of the 14th Party Congress, aiming towards the goals for 2030 and the vision for 2045.

The Fourth Industrial Revolution, globalization, climate change, and national defense requirements pose new challenges for the mechanical engineering industry: training high-quality human resources, applying clean technologies, protecting domestic production, and participating in the development of the defense industry. In this context, the human factor plays a crucial role, requiring members to be proactive and adapt to the new situation.

The General Association aims to build a modern mechanical engineering industry, striving to achieve an advanced industrial base for the country by 2031; to strengthen the association's organization, promote the application of information technology, disseminate knowledge, provide policy advice, and contribute to the development of the industry during the period of industrialization and modernization .
