On June 17, citing the Kremlin's announcement, Tass news agency said that on June 18 and 19, President Putin will make an official visit to North Korea. The visit takes place at the invitation of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Previously, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent an invitation to President Putin during his visit to Russia's Far East region last September.
The event will mark Mr Putin's first visit to North Korea in 24 years. The Russian leader last visited Pyongyang in July 2000.
In September 2023, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un traveled to Russia's Far East for a summit with President Putin.
President Putin's visit to North Korea comes amid a recent strengthening of relations between the two countries. Currently, North Korea and Russia are strengthening military ties, as well as expanding the scope of cooperation since the high-level summit.
