On June 17, citing a Kremlin announcement, the Tass news agency reported that President Putin will pay an official visit to North Korea on June 18 and 19. The visit is at the invitation of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Earlier, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un extended an invitation to President Putin during his visit to Russia's Far East last September.
The event will mark Putin's first visit to North Korea in 24 years. The last time the Russian leader visited Pyongyang was in July 2000.
In September 2023, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un traveled to the Russian Far East for a summit with President Putin.
President Putin's visit to North Korea comes amidst recently strengthened relations between the two countries. Currently, North Korea and Russia are enhancing military ties and expanding the scope of cooperation since their high-level summit.
