Japanese automaker Toyota Motor has announced a temporary suspension of production and deliveries of two SUV models, the Grand Highlander and Lexus TX, due to airbag defects.
Toyota's announcement on June 20th stated that the company has temporarily suspended production and deliveries of these SUVs until a solution is found. Customers will be notified of this issue by mid-August 2024.
The company is currently researching improvements to its mass-produced models. According to Toyota Motor, these vehicles may not meet U.S. federal safety standards, increasing the risk of injury in some accidents.
Previously, Toyota announced a recall of 145,000 2024 Grand Highlander and Lexus TX vehicles in the US because the driver's seat airbag did not deploy properly in some collisions if the driver's side window was down.
Toyota manufactures both models at its assembly plant in Princeton, Indiana, USA.
To check if your vehicle is included in a safety recall, Toyota recommends that customers visit Toyota.com/recall or nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
