Ho Chi Minh City: Grade 1, 9, 12 students return to school today

Today (August 20), all first, ninth and twelfth graders in Ho Chi Minh City officially returned to school.

It is known that before the opening ceremony, students only go to school one session, schools only organize boarding, 2 sessions after the new school year officially begins. For grade 1, during the 2 weeks before the opening ceremony, it will be time for students to get acquainted with the new school; get acquainted with the rules, manners, books... in the elementary school environment.

For grades 9 and 12, which are the final grades, during the time before the opening ceremony, schools will review and consolidate knowledge before entering the official study weeks.

In the 2025-2026 school year, in response to the new regulation on teaching and learning 2 sessions/day, a number of educational institutions in Ho Chi Minh City have adjusted their timetables. Instead of starting school at 7:00 or 7:15 as before, many schools have announced starting school at 7:15 or 7:30. According to leaders of many high schools, this adjustment is to comply with the new regulation on teaching 2 sessions/day of the Ministry of Education and Training , creating convenience for picking up and dropping off students.
