School meals not only need to be nutritious but also safe, from the source of ingredients to the processing stage. In Ho Chi Minh City, building a safe food chain is being prioritized by management agencies, businesses, and schools to minimize food safety risks and create a sustainable foundation for student health care.

To control the supply of food, many businesses have built closed-loop production models, strictly managing everything from livestock farming, quarantine, slaughtering, processing to distribution. Among these, the Feed-Farm-Food model, or "from farm to table," is implemented to ensure transparency and traceability. Raw materials are selected from farms that meet VietGAP standards, thereby contributing to improving product quality before reaching consumers and institutional kitchens.

The "Responsible Green Tick" product area focuses on criteria of safety, responsibility, transparency, and sustainability.

Mr. Le Minh Tuan, General Director of VISSAN Company, said that the company has signed a commitment to ensure food safety with the Ho Chi Minh City Food Safety Department. According to him, this not only demonstrates the company's responsibility but also contributes to spreading the spirit of "Responsibility with a green tick," encouraging food suppliers to work together to provide safe products and protect public health.

For schools, the school canteen is always a top priority. Many schools have proactively signed agreements with suppliers that have a safe food supply chain, with control from sourcing and production to distribution. This approach helps schools better control the quality of meals while enhancing the responsibility of businesses throughout the entire supply process.

Students have lunch at school, with the support of kitchen staff to ensure that meals are served safely and according to proper procedures.

Ms. Phan Thi Kim Thuy, Deputy Principal of Kindergarten No. 2 in Vinh Hoi Ward, Ho Chi Minh City, said that the school has collaborated with VISSAN for over 10 years. She stated: "When receiving food supplies, the school pays special attention to the quality of ingredients, usage instructions, and safety requirements. In addition, the school has also signed agreements with many other suppliers to diversify its supply sources while still ensuring food safety control."

To enhance food safety in schools, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has launched the "School Green Tick" program. The program aims to raise the responsibility of all stakeholders, from suppliers and distributors to educational institutions. Awareness campaigns will be conducted in schools during the summer break, ensuring implementation at the beginning of the new school year.

Product information with a "Green Tick for Responsibility" is displayed via a QR code, allowing consumers to easily verify the origin of the goods.

Mr. Bui Chi Tinh, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety, affirmed that selecting, promoting, and encouraging more businesses to participate in the safe food chain is a key objective in the project being developed for the 2026-2030 period. The authorities expect more businesses and localities to participate, thereby forming more safe food chains to supply the people of the city and neighboring provinces.

The farming process at the farm is controlled to ensure a safe supply of raw materials for the food chain.

From a distribution perspective, Mr. Nguyen Nguyen Phuong, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade, emphasized that in addition to implementing the "Green Tick" system in distribution networks, the industry and trade sector is coordinating with relevant departments and agencies to encourage school cafeterias to source standard-compliant products at preferential prices. Simultaneously, the program will continue to expand to wholesale markets, suppliers in localities and raw material regions, aiming to increase the supply of standard-compliant goods, contributing to lower costs and making them more accessible to consumers.

Each link in the safe food chain contributes to protecting students' health. With the collaboration of businesses, schools, and management agencies, Ho Chi Minh City aims to build a transparent, safe, and sustainable food ecosystem, so that every school meal truly becomes the foundation for the comprehensive development of future generations.
