By late morning on June 2nd, over 151,000 candidates in Ho Chi Minh City had completed the 120-minute Mathematics exam. This was the final subject for most candidates, as only a small number would continue with their specialized/integrated subjects later that afternoon.
Observations at the examination centers showed that many candidates were pleased that this year's Math exam was easier. In previous years' entrance exams, the Math exam was always very difficult, with many candidates even crying after finishing the subject. Conversely, in the first entrance exam after the merger, the situation seems more promising. At the exam center at Xuan Thoi Thuong Secondary School (Ba Diem commune), candidate Thuy Duyen said that this year's Math exam wasn't too difficult, but she predicted she would only get around 5-6 points. According to this candidate, the exam consisted of 7 questions, mainly covering knowledge from grades 8 and 9. The first part was a practical problem on probability and statistics, followed by algebra, then geometry... Of these, the geometry section was the most difficult.

Meanwhile, Anh Hoang, another candidate at this exam center, also said that this year's math exam was "easier" than in previous years, but it was still not easy to get a high score. "I'm confident that I'm quite good at math, but it's still difficult to get an 8. Maybe around a 7, or a little more," Anh Hoang said.
The relaxed atmosphere after the Math exam was also evident among many candidates at the exam center at Ha Huy Tap Secondary School (Dong Hung Thuan ward). Compared to previous years, when Math always caused candidates headaches, this year, many candidates were confident of achieving a good score. However, many candidates interviewed said they were not sure they would get a high score in Math, even though they had completed almost the entire exam.

Candidate Thu Thuy, at this exam center, said that questions 1, 2, and 3 were quite easy for her as they covered basic knowledge. However, questions 4 and 5 were more practical and required more thought. Regarding the geometry section, she said she wasn't sure if she would get a passing grade because she only answered one part initially.
Speaking to us, Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, 45 years old, a parent at the Ha Huy Tap Secondary School exam center, said he was very happy that his daughter did well on the exam. "My daughter is strong in foreign languages - English. Last night she was very worried because the Math exam usually has difficult questions. However, she just said she did well, so I'm happy. But this is a selective exam; if we did well, the other candidates can do well too. I hope she will pass this exam and get into her first choice university," Mr. Thang said.
