
On December 26th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Internal Affairs announced that, as of December 25th, more than 3,800 businesses with over 694,300 employees in the city had reported on their salary situation for 2025 and their plans for bonuses for the New Year and Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse) in 2026.
For the Lunar New Year in 2026, the average bonus is expected to be around 12 million VND per person, an increase of 6.8% compared to the Lunar New Year in 2025. Notably, the highest bonus recorded at a foreign-invested enterprise (FDI) reached over 1.84 billion VND per person; while the lowest was approximately over 0.8 million VND per person.
For New Year's Day 2026, the average bonus is estimated at approximately 1.93 million VND per person, an increase of 10.5% compared to New Year's Day 2025. Specifically, the highest bonus is over 1.1 billion VND per person, while the lowest is around 750,000 VND per person.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Internal Affairs, businesses with high Tet bonuses mainly operate in the fields of electronics, information technology, software development, food processing, and real estate; small-scale manufacturing businesses employing many unskilled workers have lower bonuses.
According to the report, 719 businesses (accounting for nearly 19% of the businesses that submitted reports) stated they were experiencing difficulties in arranging Tet bonuses.
In addition to bonuses, over 50% of businesses reported providing extra support in the form of gifts, transportation tickets, organized shuttle services, or visits to employees in difficult circumstances.
