At noon on August 25, Tran Quyet Chien took the field in the semi-finals of the World 3 Cushion Survival 2024 billiards tournament, facing Eddy Merckx (Belgium), Cho Myung-woo (Korea) and Lee Jung-hee (Korea). The playing order in the first round was Merckx, Lee Jung-hee, Quyet Chien and Cho Myung-woo.
The veteran Belgian player started the game quite well with a series of 6 points. Eddy Merckx was also the most stable player in the first round. Lee Jung-hee left her mark with a series of 8 points (the highest in the first round). Cho Myung-woo also did not play really well.
Meanwhile, Tran Quyet Chien started the game quite slowly. Vietnam's number 1 player continuously missed easy shots in the early stages. The rough start prevented Tony Tran from having the best feeling in the following turns. It was not until the 7th turn that Quyet Chien scored a series of 5 to return to the race.
A bad start caused Tran Quyet Chien to lose the game.
The first 45 minutes of competition ended with 8 shots. Eddy Merckx temporarily took the lead with 51 points, while Tran Quyet Chien, Cho Myung-woo and Lee Jung-hee were tied for second place with 23 points.
In the second round (each player was awarded 30 points), Lee Jung-hee played first, Eddy Merckx played second, Cho Myung-woo played third and Tran Quyet Chien played last. The game situation did not change much compared to the first round. Tony Tran still could not create explosive turns in terms of points. Meanwhile, Eddy Merckx and Lee Jung-hee still scored quite regularly to maintain the two leading positions.
"Prodigy" Cho Myung-woo was the player who made a strong breakthrough in the final rounds to come back and surpass his compatriot Lee Jung-hee. In the end, Eddy Merckx (96 points) and Cho Myung-woo (64 points) were the two players who won tickets to the final match of the World 3 Cushion Survival 2024 billiards tournament. Lee Jung-hee finished 3rd with 52 points, while Quyet Chien was last with 28 points.
The final match of the World 3 Cushion Survival 2024 billiards tournament will take place at 6:30 p.m. today (August 25, Vietnam time).
