The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has just decided to include the traditional festival, social customs and beliefs of Tet Doi of the Muong people in Thu Cuc commune and the cocoon robbing festival in Di Nau commune (now Tho Van commune), Phu Tho province into the list of national intangible cultural heritage.

According to heritage documents, Tet Doi is also known as the festival of going down to the fields. This is an important traditional festival of the Muong people in Thu Cuc commune, taking place on the 7th and 8th of January. The festival is imbued with agricultural beliefs, associated with praying for good harvests, blessings and preserving rice varieties, expressing gratitude to nature and ancestors.

The elders in Muong Thu Cuc commune say that Tet Doi originated long ago, associated with the legendary story of Cuc, who traveled far and wide to find rice seeds to save the Muong people from starvation.

Meanwhile, the Di Nau commune cocoon-stealing festival is a long-standing festival, associated with the social life and production, living and fertility beliefs of the ancient Di Nau people. The festival is held from the 4th to the 6th of January.

Two newly recognized national intangible cultural heritages are testament to efforts to preserve traditional cultural values in the homeland.
