During a recent trip to explore the West, photographer Nguyen Khanh Vu Khoa visited Ben Tre (now Vinh Long province) when returning to Ho Chi Minh City from Tra Vinh. This place used to have the largest coconut growing area in the country and was known as the "coconut land". The beauty of this land, from the people to the landscape, captivates long-distance travelers. The simple features made Vu Khoa stay for 2 days, creating the photo series "Ben Tre - land and people".
Mr. Vu Khoa shared: "Among the rows of green coconut trees rustling in the wind, there are hard-working but gentle people, who stick to the land and the river every day, living in harmony with nature."
Boats buy and gather coconuts at the river wharf.
The hard work of the people of the coconut land. Coconuts are not only harvested for water and pulp, but also for fiber, coconut shell, coconut skull... processed and created from items from daily life to handicrafts for export at a coconut purchasing and processing workshop.

Purchased coconuts are separated to get the coconut meat, the coconut shell is peeled separately, the shell is further processed into fiber, cleaned, dried, treated for harmful microorganisms... to produce many different products.
Farmers dry coconut fiber, preparing it for the next steps to make coconut fiber thread. This material can be produced into carpets, mats, nets, and pillars for climbing plants...
“Early in the morning, boats and canoes cut through the water to the floating market. At noon, coconut trees shade the mangroves, and children play and swim in the muddy river. In the afternoon, groups of people work hard to peel coconut leaves, weave baskets, and dry coconut meat in the sun - seemingly simple tasks that have fed many generations,” said Mr. Vu Khoa.
Ba Tri straw market is located near Ba Lai dam - a place that provides cattle feed, a trading place that contributes to the development of the rural economy . The market buys from all over the Western provinces such as Vinh Long , An Giang , Dong Thap, Ca Mau...
Straw collection through the lens of a photographer. Straw is packed into rolls for easier transport, each roll of straw here sells for about 20,000 - 30,000 VND.
“In Ben Tre, smiles are always on the lips, even though the hands are rough from the sun and wind. Here, people are not in a hurry, just quiet and steady, like the coconut tree in salty soil - resilient before storms, sweet after many days of drought...”, the feelings of photographer Nguyen Khanh Vu Khoa.
The rich green of Dong Khoi homeland. Coconut trees are planted on tens of thousands of hectares like a forest surrounding and protecting villages and hamlets.

The images made the photographer confess that "the love for Ben Tre's countryside is so deep that it still lingers in this land".
