Vietnamese cinema's journey to conquer the Oscars began in 1993 with "The Scent of Green Papaya" - the only work to date to be on the official nomination list.

Since then, although more than 20 films have been submitted, none have been able to go further. This year, “Red Rain” is the film chosen to represent Vietnam in the Oscars with the hope of affirming the Vietnamese film industry in the world .

"Red Rain" is a film by the People's Army Cinema that attracted more than 8 million viewers, earning 714 billion VND in revenue after more than 2 months of showing in theaters, becoming the work with the highest revenue in the history of Vietnamese cinema.

The trend of Vietnamese people watching Vietnamese films has never been stronger than this year. Vietnamese films and Vietnamese actors have become hot topics of discussion on social networks, especially films about war and history, a genre of films that were once considered difficult to watch but have now made a spectacular comeback.

From “Peach, Pho and Piano” to “Red Rain” and “Death Battle in the Sky”, Vietnamese cinema is witnessing a historic transformation with systematic investment, new thinking and strong influence of state-owned film production units.

It is not only the journey to the Oscars, but also the journey of Vietnamese films touching the hearts of Vietnamese and world audiences./.
