Nguyen Quang Linh - a young man with a dream of clean agriculture

QTO - In recent years, the youth start-up movement in the province has grown stronger with many creative models and examples of daring to think and do. Among them, the journey of Mr. Nguyen Quang Linh in Thanh My village 3, Cam Hong commune, has emerged as a vivid proof of the desire to pursue modern agriculture of today's young generation.

Born in 1994, in a family of pure farmers, Nguyen Quang Linh had a passion for agriculture since childhood. After graduating from university, Linh was lucky to have a stable government job - the dream of many young people of the same age. However, the passion for agriculture still smoldered in him. In early 2021, Linh made a bold decision: Quit his government job to start over from scratch with a commercial quail farming model.

After researching, realizing that this was a model suitable for his family's economic conditions and market demand, at the end of 2021, Mr. Linh boldly borrowed 600 million VND to build a barn, invest in a farming system and buy the first batch of quail. In the early days of starting a business, everything was confusing for Linh. He traveled to experienced farmers in and outside the commune to learn, and at the same time searched for more information online about disease treatment and care techniques. There were times when the flock of birds got sick and the eggs could not be sold, Mr. Linh fell into a deadlock.

Not accepting failure, Nguyen Quang Linh researched and applied bio-safety farming methods, improved ventilation systems, feeding troughs, and stocking density to minimize disease and ensure the health of the birds. He further researched egg-laying physiology, nutritional regimes for each stage, and closed-loop farming processes to reduce costs. Thanks to his constant efforts, the loss rate gradually decreased, and egg productivity increased steadily month by month.

From the initial small-scale farming, Mr. Linh has now developed the farm to a scale of nearly 15,000 quails, supplying the market with thousands of eggs every day. Products are collected, packaged and distributed to markets, stores and wholesalers in the province. From the commercial quail farming model, Mr. Linh's family earns about 400 million VND/year in profit. Not only does it bring a stable income to the family, the model also creates seasonal jobs for a number of local workers, contributing to improving people's lives.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Linh said: “Raising quails requires ensuring that the cages are clean and the space is well-ventilated to avoid disease. Feeding the birds must be regular and on time, otherwise it will affect the bird's egg-laying cycle. From birth to egg-laying is only about 50 days and the time for eggs is only about 8 to 9 months before having to replace the flock. In the early days, I could not imagine all the difficulties. During the time the flock was sick, I was so worried that I could not sleep, but it was those failures that taught me to persevere and to learn little by little to master the technique. I chose to raise quail because I wanted to create a clean, stable product that was suitable for the market,” Mr. Linh confided.

What is valuable about Nguyen Quang Linh is his progressive spirit. After the farm developed stably, Mr. Linh continued to invest in improving the barn, aiming to expand the scale and diversify the products. In the near future, he plans to expand the farm to about 25,000 birds, and at the same time register a trademark for quail eggs, moving towards building a stable consumption chain to increase economic value and create the Cam Hong clean quail egg brand.

Cam Hong Commune People's Committee Chairwoman Tran Thi Ngoc Tram said: “Mr. Nguyen Quang Linh's quail farming model is one of the positive directions of the youth entrepreneurship movement in the locality. Mr. Linh has boldly given up a stable job to invest in clean agriculture, something that not every young person has the courage to do. Not only does it create sustainable income for the family, the model also contributes to diversifying the commune's agricultural products. We consider this a model that needs to be replicated. The commune will continue to create conditions for training, technical support and market connections for local youth to learn and develop clean, modern agricultural models, thereby increasing the value of local agricultural products and promoting the sustainable entrepreneurship movement," Ms. Tram affirmed.

Nguyen Quang Linh's entrepreneurial journey is a beautiful story about the determination, responsibility and aspiration of young people in his hometown of Quang Tri . From the bold decision to today's achievements is proof that: As long as there is passion and determination, agriculture is still a fertile land for young people to sow dreams and reap success.
