In mid-May, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand Paetongtarn Shinawatra and a high-ranking delegation paid an official visit to Vietnam and co-chaired the 4th meeting of the Vietnam-Thailand Joint Cabinet.
As usual, the Guard Command of the Ministry of Public Security is the unit responsible for ensuring security and safety for the Prime Minister of Thailand. However, few people know that, in this mission, the Guard Command "assigned" a team of 4 female officers to protect Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
One of the four female officers is Captain Nguyen Thu Huong, an officer of the Department of Protection for Special Important Events and International Guests.
The first time the security officer approached
“The Prime Minister of Thailand is a young, friendly and very sociable female politician. Every time I open the door, the Prime Minister gets out of the car smiling and naturally, and does not forget to greet the security officer. Her actions always show closeness and trust,” Captain Nguyen Thu Huong shared.
Regarding the decision to select Captain Huong as the main access officer, Colonel Tran Xuan Thinh, Head of the Department of Protection of Special Important Events and International Visitors, said that Captain Huong is the only female student out of 56 students in the 2023 access protection officer training course - the training course is considered the most comprehensive and high-quality ever.
“Students are equipped with the best knowledge and skills in various fields to help security officers gain the capacity and qualifications to work in an international environment, work in teams and operate independently.

During her 6 months working at the unit, Thu Huong has clearly demonstrated her ability and is a young officer who is especially enthusiastic about her work. For those reasons, the commander has decided to assign Thu Huong to take on the task of being the main security officer protecting the Prime Minister of Thailand," said Colonel Thinh.
According to Captain Nguyen Thu Huong, protecting the Thai Prime Minister was the first time she was assigned the main responsibility of approaching. However, the female security officer did not feel pressured, but determined that this was a mandatory task that had to be completed.
“Along with thoroughly applying the knowledge learned during the officer training period and the practical experience accumulated while participating in protecting the events, I proactively sought information about the protected subjects, exchanged and learned experiences from my colleagues to best prepare for performing the task.
Besides, I am also very assured that in the reinforced approach officer team, there are also women with a lot of experience in performing approach missions, always ready to support when needed," said Captain Nguyen Thu Huong.
With standard communication, close coordination, professionalism, courage and confidence in performing the mission, Captain Nguyen Thu Huong and her teammates excellently completed the mission, leaving a good impression of the image of Vietnamese female security officers in the heart of the Thai Prime Minister.
Australian Governor General's Guard walks around Hoan Kiem Lake
After successfully protecting the Prime Minister of Thailand, on September 9-12, Captain Nguyen Thu Huong continued to be selected to perform the task of main access protection officer, protecting Australian Governor-General Sam Mostyn on a State visit to Vietnam.
Based on the unit's plans and strategies, Captain Huong proactively coordinated closely with teammates and security forces of neighboring countries during the mission.
To ensure the mission was carried out perfectly, the female officer learned that Ms. Sam Mostyn was quite an active person, with a hobby of taking photos, capturing beautiful moments in the countries she visited and worked in.
According to the plan, at 5:40 am on September 11, Governor General of Australia Sam Mostyn and her husband Simeon Beckett were going for a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake. At exactly 4:45 am, Captain Huong was dressed in active sportswear , ready with her teammates to carry out the task of protecting Mrs. Sam Mostyn and her husband while walking around Hoan Kiem Lake.

“The difficulty in protecting this activity is the open, outdoor space, the requirement is to ensure both security and safety, and to ensure the comfort, closeness and harmony of Ms. Sam Mostyn with the people,” Captain Huong shared.
However, with close coordination with the security forces of the neighboring country, enthusiastic help from teammates and especially flexible and creative application of the knowledge and skills that she had been equipped with, once again, Thu Huong successfully completed the assigned task.
During the 30-minute walk around Hoan Kiem Lake, Mrs. Sam Mostyn and her husband were very happy, comfortably taking photos and interacting with the capital's people. Occasionally, she stopped to take out her phone to record the scenery and activities of the people.
“That autumn morning was very beautiful and the lakeside area seemed more lively with the image of an international guest comfortable, happy, and excited to take pictures with the locals. After finishing the 30-minute morning walk around Hoan Kiem Lake, when I returned to the hotel, looking at the satisfied faces of Mrs. Sam Mostyn and her husband, I felt very happy,” said Captain Nguyen Thu Huong.
The days of hard training
In June 2015, after graduating from the Security Academy, Nguyen Thu Huong began working at the Political Department, Regiment 375, Guard Command. A year later, Huong was transferred to work at the Organizing Committee of the Memorial Ceremony, performing the task of welcoming and guiding compatriots and international guests to visit President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum.
As a young, energetic and enthusiastic staff, Thu Huong always completes assigned tasks excellently.
However, with the desire to explore her own abilities and try her hand in a new field of work, Nguyen Thu Huong registered to apply and became the only female student of the 6th Access Protection Officer Training Class in 2023.
One of the principles of the approach officer training courses is that there is no preferential treatment or exception for female students; there is no age discrimination in the training content. Therefore, like the 55 male students, Thu Huong had to undergo all 34 theoretical and practical training contents.
Although she had researched and anticipated the difficulties and hardships of the training course, when participating directly, Nguyen Thu Huong still could not avoid feeling "shocked".
“There were days when I had to combine physical training with martial arts training at high intensity, in unpredictable weather conditions, and by the end of the day, I still felt exhausted. When I got home, I didn’t want to do anything anymore,” Captain Nguyen Thu Huong recalled.

Due to family circumstances of having 2 small children and parents living far away, Huong was allowed to go home every day by the Board of Directors of the Training and Professional Development Center.
This means that, in order to follow the training course, for 10 consecutive months, regardless of the weather, rain or shine, winter or summer, Huong must wake up at 5am to prepare breakfast for the whole family, clothes, and school supplies for her two children.
After taking her eldest child to class, at 6:30, Huong took the bus to the training center in Ba Vi to participate in training with the members of the class. After a day of high-intensity training on the training ground, at 6:00 p.m., Huong took the bus back to pick up her child and continue to do the work of a wife and mother.
“Although I had anticipated the difficulties, when I entered the training, I did not think it would be so harsh. The training program for the approaching officer training class is already very high and difficult for all students. And for female students like me, the difficulties are multiplied many times.
However, with the encouragement and support from my family, teachers at the center, fellow students and especially my personal honor, I am determined to overcome difficulties to complete the course," said Captain Huong.
At the end of the training course, on December 1, 2024, Thu Huong officially received the decision to join the Security Department for special important events and international guests - one of the backbone professional units of the Guard Command.
With the trust of the unit Commander, Captain Nguyen Thu Huong is gradually affirming her ability as a young and enthusiastic female officer.
