Beware of flooding and landslides in An Giang, Dong Thap, Can Tho, Vinh Long

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicts: Water levels in the upper Mekong River will change slowly and be affected by tides.

Accordingly, by October 20, the highest daily water level on the Tien River at Tan Chau station dropped to 3.75m, 0.25m above alert level 1; on the Hau River at Chau Doc station dropped to 3.35m, 0.15m below alert level 2; at stations downstream of the Mekong River, it fluctuated between alert level 1 and alert level 2.

Risk of flooding in low-lying areas, riverside areas, and areas outside the dyke in An Giang province and low-lying areas, riverside areas in Dong Thap, Can Tho, and Vinh Long provinces. Beware of landslides and weak dykes in flooded areas. Flood risk level 1.

Also according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the day and night of October 16, the area from Ha Tinh to Lam Dong will have showers and thunderstorms with rainfall of 20-40mm, locally heavy rain of over 100mm.

On the afternoon and evening of October 16, the Southern region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms with rainfall of 15-30mm, with some places experiencing heavy rain of over 70mm.

Warning of risk of heavy rain over 70mm/3h.

"Thunderstorms in the areas are likely to cause tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rains can cause flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes and flooding in low-lying areas," noted Deputy Head of the Weather Forecasting Department Le Thi Loan.

The Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said: As of 7:00 a.m. on October 16, due to the impact of floods after storm No. 11, there are still 6,413 customers without power, including 2,512 houses in Thai Nguyen, 3,427 houses in Bac Ninh, 444 houses in Lang Son, and 30 houses in Cao Bang; 835 houses are still flooded (314 in Bac Ninh, 521 in Hanoi). 10/92 communes in Thai Nguyen province have lost telecommunications network connection.

Previously, on October 15, the Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control received a shipment worth about 322,000 USD from the Australian Government, including 756 personal hygiene kits, 320 kitchenware sets, 300 blankets, and 756 home repair kits; the goods were transported and handed over to Bac Ninh province.

On the same day, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection organized a working group to survey and assess the damage caused by storm No. 11 and direct post-storm production recovery, promoting winter crop production in Thai Nguyen and Bac Ninh provinces.

Currently, localities are continuing to review and synthesize remedial work.
