Vietnam welcomes Timor-Leste to become an official member of ASEAN and believes that Timor-Leste will actively contribute to the common efforts to build a resilient, innovative and people-centered ASEAN Community.

On the afternoon of October 16, in response to a reporter's question asking the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to comment on the information: Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim - ASEAN Chair 2025, on October 11 confirmed that Timor-Leste will officially become the 11th full member of ASEAN on October 26, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said:

The 46th ASEAN Summit (May 2025) decided to admit Timor-Leste as the 11th official member of ASEAN. The admission ceremony is expected to take place at the 47th ASEAN Summit (October 26, 2025).

Vietnam welcomes Timor-Leste to become an official member of ASEAN and believes that Timor-Leste will actively contribute to the common efforts to build a resilient, innovative and people-centered ASEAN Community.

Vietnam will continue to work with ASEAN member countries to support Timor-Leste in improving its capacity and effectively participating in ASEAN's common cooperation process.

* Also at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a reporter's question asking the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to state his opinion on the information: On October 14, Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan said that US President Donald Trump will attend the 47th ASEAN Summit and "hopes to witness the signing ceremony of the ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia", Ms. Pham Thu Hang said:

“Our position on this issue has been made clear many times.

We welcome and appreciate the efforts and mediation of countries, especially Malaysia, in its role as ASEAN Chair 2025 and relevant parties, along with the active cooperation of Thailand and Cambodia in promoting and peacefully resolving disagreements on the basis of fundamental principles of international law, the United Nations Charter, the ASEAN Charter, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and in the spirit of ASEAN friendship and solidarity for the benefit of both Thailand and Cambodia, for peace and stability in the region and the world.
