On the afternoon of October 16, Military Region 1 solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Military Region's Armed Forces' Traditional Day and receive the Ho Chi Minh Order. General Secretary To Lam, Secretary of the Central Military Commission, attended and delivered a speech at the ceremony.

Exactly 80 years ago, on October 16, 1945, President Ho Chi Minh signed a decree establishing 12 military zones across the country, including Military Zone 1, which has since become the Traditional Day of the armed forces of Military Zone 1.

Through the 80-year journey full of hardships but heroic, the armed forces of Military Region 1 have always shown their loyalty, solidarity, initiative, creativity, determination to overcome hardships and sacrifices, and strive to excellently complete all tasks assigned by the Party, State and people, worthy of Uncle Ho's praise: "The revolution was successful thanks to Viet Bac, then the resistance will be victorious thanks to Viet Bac".

Speaking at the ceremony, General Secretary To Lam warmly congratulated the feats and achievements that officers and soldiers of the armed forces of Military Region 1 have attained over the past 80 years.

The General Secretary emphasized that Military Region 1 is a strategic area of ​​the four northeastern provinces of the country, with 25 ethnic groups living together, with uneven levels of education and economic development, and complex non-traditional security challenges; the enemy often takes advantage of ethnic and religious issues to incite and propagate illegal religions, divide the great national unity bloc, cause political instability, and oppose the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's policies and laws.

To successfully carry out the tasks assigned by the Party, State and army, General Secretary To Lam requested that the armed forces of Military Region 1 need to well implement "2 steadfastness, 2 promotion and 2 prevention" to successfully carry out the directions, goals, military and defense tasks and build the Party organization of the army and military region.

Focus on building a "sleek, compact, strong, revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and modern" military region's armed forces, improving overall strength, level, and combat capability.

General Secretary To Lam also noted that the armed forces of Military Region 1 need to ensure good logistics and technical reserves for combat readiness. They should proactively coordinate closely with other forces in implementing foreign policy and building a peaceful and friendly border.

Besides, it is necessary to perform well the function of "working army" and do a good job of propaganda and mobilization of the people; fight to defeat the "peaceful evolution" plot of hostile forces; closely coordinate with local Party committees and authorities to actively participate in economic, cultural and social development in the area...

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, General Secretary To Lam awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal for the second time to the armed forces of Military Region 1.

With the typical feats and achievements gained over the past 80 years, the armed forces of Military Region 1 were honored to be awarded by the Party and State with 1 Gold Star Order, 2 Ho Chi Minh Orders, 1 Second-class Independence Order, 2 First-class Military Exploit Orders, 1 Third-class Military Exploit Order and 2 Fatherland Protection Orders. The typical feats and achievements have built the glorious tradition of "Loyalty, pioneering, solidarity, victory" of the armed forces of Military Region 1.
