On October 16, Phuoc Hiep Primary School (Tan An Hoi Commune, Ho Chi Minh City) inaugurated a digital citizenship skills classroom. The classroom is equipped with a modern tablet system and other supporting devices to help students experience learning in a safe and smart digital environment.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said: "Ho Chi Minh City aims to have 1,000/3,500 digital schools by the end of 2030. Of which, 100% of students must study in a digital environment; 100% of teachers must know how to use digital learning materials and databases shared across the industry for teaching."
"Digital devices are not a difficult barrier now that they have entered daily life. It is the responsibility of schools to equip students with digital skills, not to prevent students from accessing digital devices," Mr. Hieu emphasized.
According to Mr. Hieu, each school needs to equip students with digital skills at each level, so that at the end of each level, students will meet the requirements for digital competence.
For example, by the time they complete primary school, students will be proficient in using and understand the benefits and harms of using smart devices.
Regarding the education sector of Ho Chi Minh City, the Director of the Department of Education and Training informed that he has requested the Department's Financial Planning Department to advise on equipping digital citizenship skills classrooms and smart classrooms. Along with that is the specific spending ratio for digitalization activities in education.
It is known that Phuoc Hiep Primary School (in the old Cu Chi district) has 864 students and 28 classrooms. Ms. Le Thi Lung - Principal of the school - affirmed that the project will be a source of inspiration for teachers and students of the school to continue to make efforts, innovate, and innovate more in teaching and learning, meeting the requirements of the education sector in the digital age.
100 schools meet digital school standards
In the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City determined that digital transformation continues to be a key and top priority task in teaching and school administration.
Notably, by the end of the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have 100 primary, secondary and high schools meeting digital school standards (according to the standards of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee).
