From the small path to the road of faith

In the Ban Muong residential group (Cau Thia ward), the name Hoang Van On is mentioned by the people with trust and respect. As a young cadre who has been attached to the grassroots for many years, Mr. On chooses to be close to the people, understand the people and work with the people so that each policy and movement can enter life naturally and effectively.

Not long ago, the road leading to the residential group was just a small path, muddy in the rainy season and dusty in the dry season. “It was very difficult to travel, especially on rainy days. It was heartbreaking to see the children struggling to go to school,” Ms. Hoang Thi Tham, a resident of the group, recalled.

Realizing that difficult traffic was hindering the lives and production of the people, Mr. On started to campaign for concrete roads between villages. Without slogans or imposition, he went to each house, talked, explained the benefits, and then discussed with the people how to do it.

Building roads is not just about transportation, but also about opening ways for people to do business and for children to go to school more conveniently.

Thanks to the persistence in mobilizing, the movement has spread widely in the community. In just 5 years, the people of Ban Muong have voluntarily donated thousands of square meters of land, contributed more than 476 million VND and thousands of working days, contributing to the concreting of nearly 5 km of inter-village roads. In 2025 alone, the people continued to support 88 million VND to complete an additional 470 meters of new road.

“We are very happy with clean and beautiful roads. It is no longer muddy during the rainy season, and transporting goods is easier,” Ms. Tham shared, smiling and unable to hide her joy.

Help people escape poverty and become rich

Not stopping at road construction, Mr. Hoang Van On is also the person who connects the State's support programs and policies to each household, especially poor and near-poor households.

According to Mr. On, if we want to build a civilized and prosperous residential group, we must let people know how to develop the economy , have jobs and income. He proactively mobilizes organizations to organize training courses, guide people to access preferential loans, and apply new techniques in cultivation and animal husbandry.

Mr. Luong Van Tai, formerly a poor household in the group, recounted: “Thanks to On’s encouragement and guidance, I boldly borrowed money to raise buffaloes and chickens, and grow vegetables. Now the family not only has enough to eat but also has some savings. If On hadn’t patiently guided me, I probably wouldn’t have dared to do it.”

Thanks to that spirit of solidarity, the poverty rate in Ban Muong has dropped sharply from 16.2% in 2020 to 3.9% in 2025. This year alone, three poor households have solid houses, and many others have become well-off. The numbers seem dry, but behind them are hundreds of grassroots visits, long nights of meetings and countless efforts to "speak so that people understand, act so that people believe".

Neighborhood solidarity, homeland change

As the head of the residential group and also an exemplary young party member, Mr. On is also a bridge between the government and the people, actively propagating the policies of the Party and the State; mobilizing young people to participate in military service, contributing to maintaining security and order.

In recent years, the appearance of Ban Muong residential area has changed dramatically: long, clean concrete roads, new houses interspersed with green gardens. Life, though still simple, is full of joy and confidence in the future.

For him, the greatest reward is not a certificate of merit, but “the trust and smiles of the people every time a new road is opened, each roof is firmly built”.

When asked what he is most proud of after many years as a team leader, Hoang Van On shared: “I am just the one who initiated the work, the success belongs to the people. With the people's consensus, anything can be done.”

That is also what makes the people of Ban Muong love him, the grassroots cadre who does not mind the difficulties, tirelessly "goes to every alley, knocks on every door, checks every household" to listen, share and act.

Now, the clean concrete roads are not only convenient transportation routes but also roads of faith symbolizing the unity, solidarity and self-reliance of the people of Ban Muong. There, the mark of the devoted head of the residential group, Hoang Van On, will still be mentioned as a beautiful testament to the strength of faith and dedication at the grassroots level.
