On October 16th, information from the Dong Thanh Ward Police Station in Vinh Long province indicated that they had coordinated the reception and handover of a golden mountain tortoise and a pangolin to the Vinh Long Provincial Forest Protection Department.

Earlier, on the afternoon of October 12th, Ms. Duong Thi Kim Lien (27 years old, residing in Dong Thuan hamlet, Dong Thanh ward) discovered a turtle weighing 0.8kg while cleaning around her house. After learning that it was a rare wild animal, Ms. Lien proactively brought the golden mountain turtle to the Dong Thanh Ward Police Station to report and hand it over.

On the same day, Mr. Son Thanh Hoang (33 years old, residing in Hoa Thanh 2 hamlet, Dong Thanh ward) discovered and caught a pangolin weighing 3.7 kg while gardening. Recognizing it as a rare and endangered wild animal, Mr. Hoang voluntarily handed the pangolin over to the authorities.

After receiving them, the Dong Thanh Ward Police, in coordination with the local authorities, checked the health of the turtle and pangolin, then handed them over to the forest rangers to be released back into the wild, contributing to biodiversity conservation.

According to the Vinh Long Provincial Forest Protection Department, the golden mountain tortoise is listed in the category of endangered and rare forest animals, group IIB, while the pangolin is listed in the category of endangered and rare forest animals, group IB; both are classified as critically endangered according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) classification. These are animals whose hunting, keeping in captivity, transportation, and illegal trade are strictly prohibited by law.
