Introducing technology into seedling production.
The business of producing seedlings and ornamental plants in Cho Lach commune ( Vinh Long province) has existed for hundreds of years. However, propagation techniques mainly rely on seed germination, grafting, or cuttings. Recently, many businesses have boldly applied technology to improve the quality of their seedlings.

Ms. Tang Thi Cam Nhung, a manager at ViGen Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (Cho Lach commune), said: "Previously, Hoang Long nursery specialized in producing grafted yellow apricot trees for nationwide distribution, but the traditional production method resulted in inconsistent quality and difficulty in sales. In 2025, the facility was upgraded to ViGen Biotechnology Co., Ltd., investing in modern machinery and equipment, and applying tissue culture methods to mass-produce products with consistent quality and disease-free status."
The company expects to supply approximately 12 million seedlings and ornamental plants of various types annually using tissue culture methods, with key products including yellow apricot blossoms, chrysanthemums, kalanchoe, diamond pine, bananas, foliage plants, orchids, etc. The company also conducts trial plantings to compare with traditional varieties, and organizes training to help farmers improve their techniques and access new technologies.
Digital transformation - a new driving force for agriculture.
Currently, Cho Lach commune has 150 businesses and more than 700 establishments producing ornamental plants, seedlings, and supporting products for the industry such as pots and fertilizers. All are gradually applying science and technology, forming a modern value chain.
According to Mr. Tran Huu Nghi, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cho Lach commune, the application of high technology, especially tissue culture technology and digital transformation, has developed very rapidly, contributing to improving the quality of local seedlings.
Besides large-scale establishments and businesses, the production and trading of ornamental plants and seedlings is also the livelihood of approximately 2,000 households in Cho Lach commune. A positive sign is that not only has production changed, but consumption has also shifted strongly towards the digital environment, with over 50% of households selling their goods through e-commerce platforms and social networks such as Zalo, Facebook, and TikTok.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nhung, one of many households selling ornamental plants online, shared that most people in the flower village are already familiar with advertising their products online. Yellow apricot blossoms are sold year-round in various sizes, and many households unfamiliar with technology can hire online sales services. Thanks to this, farmers sell their products directly, reducing dependence on middlemen and increasing economic efficiency.
Vinh Long province has established the Center for Technology and Digital Transformation (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment), marking a turning point in agricultural modernization. Mr. Lam Van Tan, Director of the Vinh Long Department of Agriculture and Environment, stated that the Center will promote the application of digital technology in the production, processing, traceability, management, and consumption of agricultural products. Simultaneously, it will create a centralized database to help farmers and businesses make accurate decisions, reduce production costs, and increase productivity.
According to Mr. Nguyen Quynh Thien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Long province, the province's science and technology activities in recent years have achieved many outstanding results. The locality has implemented 373 science and technology tasks at all levels. As a result, 15 new varieties have been created, and 299 models have been developed, most of which have been transferred and applied to production, helping to improve productivity and competitiveness for key products.
Vinh Long has strong advantages in coconut, seafood, pomelo, and specialty fruit trees with 11 protected geographical indications. The province has identified focusing on applying science and technology, promoting deep processing, and building value chains as key solutions for developing a green, modern, and sustainable agriculture.
